Le Digger Review

Who would ever think back in 2023 that Hacksaw Gaming would create a series longer than 2 or maybe 3 sequels? After all, it took more than a year for the studio to release the second “Le” title! Le Bandit and Smokey were introduced in the summer of 2023, while the Egyptian transformation, Le Pharaoh, came in September 2024. Le Digger is the latest game of the series and number 12, including the exclusive titles.

Now, Hacksaw Gaming does have a reputation as a studio that knows how to craft a catchy iteration of a hit game. It has done it many times, and I don’t see why to stop with a franchise as popular as this one. In Le Digger, Smokey changes its outfit once again to search for treasures, but this time, as old as time. He is armed with “a whip, a wink, and a very relaxed attitude toward safety regulations” in a fresh attempt to dig out ancient treasures.

Le Digger follows the series’ main concept and comes with a Cluster Pays mechanic packed with modified Super Cascades. Instead of symbols flying out and new ones coming from above, the provider offers a brand-new Layers system. Moreover, Smokey is more involved in the gameplay than ever through the Dynamite Removal feature. Golden Reveals remains the main aim in both the base phase and bonus games. Le Digger Slot - Reels Screen

Le Digger plays on a 6x5 grid and has a rather standard paytable consisting of 10 regular symbols. They pay for clusters of at least 5 instances, connected horizontally or vertically. Whenever that happens, any other instances of the same symbols across the grid will also be removed. Wild Dynamite is a wild symbol, and it substitutes for all the regulars. Wilds can do a lot of “damage” if they get involved in chain reactions!

Gas Lamps stay on top of the payout ranking with cluster prizes from 1x to 200x the bet. Dino Fossils and Backpacks pay 0.60x - 100x, while Binoculars and Hats award between 0.40x and 75x. The low symbols are A, K, Q, J, and 10, and they deliver from 0.20x to 50x. Bets start from €0.05 and reach €50 per spin, up to €3,750 via the ante bets.

The Le Digger RTP ranges and goes as high as 96.26%, which is comparable with the series. Hacksaw Gaming treats us with medium levels of volatility and a quite decent Hit Frequency rate of 36.40%. The alternative RTPs are 94.29%, 92.32%, and 86.21%, but the good news is that the Le Digger max win remains juicy - 15,000x the bet.

Le Digger Features

Le Digger keeps the core mechanics of the previous Le games and builds upon them, or should I say, beneath them. Hacksaw Gaming has added Gambles, unlocking the higher tiers of the bonus minigame. Thus, the hidden level is no longer available only by landing 5 scatters. There is another way that leads players to a much funnier road, although a lot riskier, too.

Layers

Layers replaces Super Cascades and offers a more limited, but potentially more well-paying spins. Whenever winning clusters occur, all symbols of the types are removed from the grid and with them one layer of the board. New symbols await below, and if there are new clusters, the sequence continues.

• Layer 1 - regular symbols, scatters, and Wild Dynamites.
• Layer 2 - regular symbols, scatters, and Wild Dynamites.
• Layer 3 - special symbols via Golden Reveals.

Dynamite Removal

Dynamite Removal may activate after all winnings have been evaluated. Smokey can randomly throw 1 to 5 Dynamites on the reels. Each stick will remove a 2x2 square around itself upon exploding, along with one grid layer. If there is a Wild Dynamite within reach, it will also explode, removing a layer and a 3x3 square of symbols.

If any cell is affected by both Dynamite and Wild Dynamite, only one layer of grid will be removed. Chain reactions are possible if the exploding area of one Wild Dynamite affects another one. After it is all done and new winning clusters have been created as a result of Dynamite Removal, Smokey may throw new Dynamites on the grid.

Golden Reveals

Golden Reveals is where the big money is hidden in Le Digger and any other slot from the series. Each exposed position of the 3rd layer will reveal one of the symbols listed below. Coins and Diamonds activate first, then the green clovers, gold clovers, and collectors, if any.

• Bronze Coins - 1x, 2x, 3x, and 4x the bet.
• Silver Coins - 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, and 10x the bet.
• Gold Coins - 20x, 30x, 40x, and 50x the bet.
• Diamonds - 100x, 150x, 250x, and 500x the bet.
• Green Clovers - additive multipliers of x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, or x20.
• Gold Clovers - multiplicative multipliers of x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, or x20.
• Bag of Money - a Collector symbol that collects all the Coin, Diamond, and Collector values. All collected positions reveal new special symbols.

Bonus Game - Tomb Service

Tomb Service activates when land 3 scatter symbols on the reels. You can either accept 10 free spins or gamble for the next bonus tier. If you select the riskier option, you will get a more powerful bonus round or a cash prize of 1x to 50x the bet. Tomb Service comes with a Dynamite Collector which collects all Wild Dynamite that have been part of winning clusters.

On the last free spin, the number shown in the meter will be the number of Dynamites that Smokey will throw on the reels. Two or three scatters in this bonus tier will award 2 and 4 extra free spins, respectively.

Bonus Game - Dig It

Dig It is the second bonus tier in Le Digger, and it requires 4 scatters on the grid. You can once again accept 10 rounds or risk them for the hidden bonus level. You can either win it or cash out a prize of 5x to 500x. Dig It comes with a progressive Blast Bar that is active until the end of the bonus. Symbols removed from layers 1 and 2 in any way contribute to the Blast Bar.

There are 4 levels in this feature, and you need 85 symbols to reach tier 2 and upgrade all Bronze Coins to Silver Coins. The other two levels require 100 and 115 symbols, respectively and will upgrade Coins to Gold and Diamond by the same logic. Moreover, on every new tier, you’ll get 5 extra free spins.

Hidden Epic Bonus - Gold Digger

Gold Digger is the hidden epic bonus, and it is available via the Gamble feature or by landing 5 scatter symbols. It also starts with 10 free spins, and you can add more by landing additional scatters just like in Tomb Service. Smokey will throw 5 Dynamites on every Gold Digger round, and Bronze Coins are not available in Golden Reveal.

Theme & Graphics

Smokey proved to be a true shape-shifter, and it has been a long time since he was doing his tricks on the streets of Paris. During the last two, two and a half years, the cunning raccoon visited Egypt, Scandinavia, Las Vegas, and Greece. He disguised himself as cowboy, a fisherman, and even a bunny. Le Digger puts him in the hard and dirty work among excavation grounds and dinosaur remains.

Smokey wears a backpack full of equipment, a wide-brimmed hat, a scarf, and glasses. He is carrying a dynamite stick and is about to throw many like it on the reels, hopefully. The slot’s visual quality is, as usual, awesome, while the audio set is funny and full of exclamations. Le Digger follows the cartoonish style that Hacksaw Gaming so skillfully managed to impose on the market.

Our Verdict

Hacksaw Gaming rarely creates reskins of its games unless it is for a branded or exclusive release. From that point of view, the Le series is unique, and each installment is worth the test. Le Digger goes even further and changes one of the key elements of the Cluster Pays mechanic. Super Cascades are no more, and now they are replaced by Layers, although a small part has been kept since all instances of the winning symbols are also removed.

Le Digger offers great technical characteristics, including a high RTP rate, medium volatility, and a mouth-watering cap (15,000x). All the Golden Reveal special symbols have been kept as well, and players have 3 Free Spins modes to explore. The Gamble way is a nice touch, and I really like how diverse the enhancements are in Tomb Service, Dig It, and Gold Digger. In short, Hacksaw Gaming provides plenty of the same but polished and upgraded to lead the series to a potentially new direction.
