We have seen the classic fruit machine theme mixed with the equally classic wealth theme before, but Hacksaw has added a dash of magic to the mix as well, and that’s a “threesome” we can’t remember engaging with. The glossy visuals are not the best or most original display we’ve seen from Hacksaw, however, and you need to brace yourself for plenty of “oink, oink” pig sound effects. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you can always turn off the sound effects if you wish.

The 5x5 grid is placed inside a bank vault filled with golden coins, and the magic happens when you land the Magic Hat symbol. Together with the Magic Piggy symbol, it can generate wilds or bill stacks, and the latter are cash symbols that are collected and possibly multiplier boosted. Solid prizes can come from this feature, and you get even more of the same in the bonus round. It comes with a star collect system that never resets in the Epig tier of the feature, and you can win up to a solid 7,500x your stake in all stages of the game.

The premium symbols pay between 10 and 30 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the ‘W’ Wild symbol steps in for pay symbols to help complete wins. The Wild can land on all 5 reels, and landing exactly 5 wilds on the same payline awards 30x your stake.

The Magic Hat symbol reveals either a Bill Stack or a Wild symbol when it lands, and it turns into either of the symbols it pulls out of its own hat. All Magic Piggy symbols in view turn into the revealed symbol, and the Bill Stack symbols come with cash prize values between 1 and 1,000 x your stake.

The Magic Piggy symbol can sometimes turn into a Multiplier Coin when the Magic Stacks feature triggers, and it will then reveal multiplier values of x2, x3, x4, or x5. The multiplier boosts the value of up to 5 Bill Stack symbols, and the same Bill Stack may be boosted several times by the same multiplier symbol (or by another multiplier symbol).

You need 3 FS scatters in view to trigger the Pig Bonus Round, and this awards 10 free spins. Each reel comes with a 5-points meter above, and Star symbols add between 1 and 5 points to the meter above the reel they appear on. You can also land Super Star symbols that add between 1 and 5 points to the meter above all 5 of the reels.

Whenever you land the Magic Hat in the bonus round, you get the same number of Magic Piggy symbols added to random positions as you have points in the meter above where the Magic Hat landed. The meter resets after this has happened, and you get +10 extra spins if you manage to fill all 5 meters. You get +4 extra spins from 3 FS scatters on the same spin, and landing 4 FS symbol upgrades the bonus round to the Epig tier.

If you have less than 10 free spins when you upgrade to the Epig Bonus Round, you get topped up to 10 again, and this feature is also triggered from the base game if you land 4 triggering FS scatters. This gives you 10 free spins as well, and the big difference is that the Star Points never reset even after the Magic Hat feature has played out.

Review Summary

We are a bit on the fence about this one, as the piggy noise that is supposed to be charming became annoying rather quickly. This is, of course, subjective, and some players may find it cute and funny for all we know. Mixing magic with the classic fruit theme, and the equally classic and glossy wealth theme, works okay, but it does give Magic Piggy a more generic look and feel than you might be used to and expect from Hacksaw Gaming.

It’s an echo from the colorful, cute and mobile-friendly releases they started out with in a sense, but don’t underestimate this thing either. It’s not their most brutal release ever, for sure, but it still got teeth. The 7,500x potential is solid for a mid-level release, and you get somewhat original features that can pop when you least expect it. The featurespins can be tempting, but they can drain your bankroll quicker than you may think as well. Not the most memorable release we’ve seen from Hacksaw perhaps, but still a decent game to kill some time with.
