Le Vampire is the latest addition to Hacksaw Gaming’s ever-growing Le series. As the title implies, Smokey is back with a new haircut and sharper fangs than ever.

Our familiar raccoon has developed quite a taste for blood, is no longer particularly fond of sunlight, and has settled down inside a spooky medieval castle. He even sleeps in a coffin now and occasionally transforms into a bat.

I know we have seen quite a few Le slots lately, and before you sigh at yet another reskin, I am glad to report that Le Vampire brings some much-needed changes to shake up the formula.

The core remains largely the same, revolving around the reveal mechanic and instant cash prizes. This time, however, Hacksaw Gaming has injected the gameplay with a few twists, including a new type of highlighted squares and a progression system running through the bonus rounds. Let’s start with the theme, where the most obvious changes can be found. I must admit, Hacksaw Gaming has really gone to town with this one. Le Vampire is undoubtedly among the coolest-looking releases in the entire series. The vampire setting is executed brilliantly, and the music is awesome.

If I were to nitpick, however, the classic Rainbows, Clovers, and several other symbols involved in the reveal feature feel completely inconsistent with the theme. They stick out from the rest of the set and simply do not belong alongside fanged jaws, skulls, pistols, and blood cells.

I understand that Rainbows and Clovers are part of the series’ identity, but their traditional appearance slightly breaks the immersion here. I think anyone would agree that those customised versions look far better than generic symbols copied and pasted from other games. Le Vampire still looks excellent overall, but a vampiric twist on the familiar icons would have made its visual package feel much more cohesive.

Rules-wise, Le Vampire builds on the established formula. The action takes place on a large 6x5 grid with a Cluster Pays system at its core, supported by the Super Cascades mechanic.

Symbols create wins when 5 or more matching instances connect horizontally and/or vertically. Whenever a winning cluster appears, all participating symbols of that type are removed from the grid. New ones then fall from above to fill the empty positions, and the cascading process continues for as long as consecutive wins keep forming.

Green and Gold Clovers may also appear, applying random multipliers from x2 to x20. Green Clovers affect symbols on adjacent positions, while their Gold version multiplies all symbols across the entire grid.

Once the Clovers have activated, Bags of Gold come into play – they gather the values of all Coins and previously activated collector symbols within their surrounding 3x3 area. Every Golden Square emptied this way reveals another Special symbol, extending the reveal sequence.

Caludrons activate last and collect all values visible on the grid. As with Bags, the emptied Golden Squares reveal replacement symbols and can keep the chain going.

Once no further reveals or activations are possible, the remaining Coin, Bag of Gold, and Cauldron values are added together and paid.

Le Vampire Free Spins

The Le Vampire casino slot contains three bonus rounds, each beginning with 10 free spins. All of them retain the base-game mechanics but introduce persistent highlighted squares and a new progression system based around the four premium symbols.

I find Le Vampire a nice addition to the series and, finally, one that makes some actual changes to the established formula. It does not revolutionise the franchise, yet the gorgeous presentation, awesome soundtrack, and expanded gameplay elements introduce enough new ideas to make Le Vampire feel like a worthwhile instalment rather than just another soulless reskin.
