Welp, another entry in the Le series is on the table, but I am not as excited about it as I used to be. I think we can all agree that Hacksaw Gaming has made Smokey work overtime lately. We have seen seasonal reskins of the original Le Bandit formula, releases that expanded on it, and now... one that shrinks it?

Yep, Le Bandit Hold & Win takes the series in a more compact direction. Hacksaw strips away several familiar mechanics and leaves Smokey with a much simpler Hold n Win setup built around the basics of the format.

Gameplay-wise, Le Bandit Hold & Win keeps things pretty small with a 3x3 grid and 9 betways running from left to right. Bets in the demo start at €0.05 and go all the way to €400 per spin, so the betting range itself is anything but compact. As usual, actual casinos may set their own minimum and maximum limits.

The math profile here is pretty mild. Le Bandit Hold & Win runs on medium volatility, with the overall risk sitting somewhere around the middle. The 2,500x max win is also on the restrained side for a modern slot with this volatility level.

The regular Rainbow Scatter is your way into Rainbow Fortune Hold & Win, starting the round with 3 spins. Only bonus symbols appear from this point, and landing another one brings the counter back to 3 while keeping that symbol on the grid.

If the grid fills with special symbols, their values and modifiers are resolved before the next spin and the occupied positions are cleared. Otherwise, the Hold & Win continues until no new special symbol lands within the remaining spins. Once the counter reaches zero, all values left on the grid are awarded and the round ends.

Theme and Graphics

Smokey is back in Paris for another round of criminal shenanigans, and visually there is very little new to talk about. Le Bandit Hold & Win reuses the presentation of the original Le Bandit almost in full, from the Parisian backdrop and character art to the symbols and animations.

To be fair, those assets have aged pretty well. The artwork still looks great, animations remain nicely done, and Smokey has lost none of his charisma. Sound design follows the same route, with the familiar soundtrack and effects returning untouched.

So yeah, the game still looks and sounds good. I just wish Hacksaw had done something new with the presentation, because seeing the original assets recycled almost completely is pretty saddening.

Well, can you milk a raccoon to the point where it starts giving milk? Hacksaw Gaming seems pretty determined to find out, because Smokey has been seriously overworked lately. I mentioned the studio's love for reskins earlier, but saved one detail for the end: Le Bandit Hold & Win is also a reskin.

The formula may look different from the usual Le Bandit flow, yet gameplay-wise we are dealing with a clone of Le Sortudo. So the final recipe is pretty simple: take the visuals from the original Le Bandit, combine them with the game core of a newer release, and send Smokey back to Paris once again.

I still think the compact Hold & Win idea is pretty dope, and the grid-resetting gimmick works well enough. The problem is how little new material surrounds it. With reused visuals on one side and reused gameplay on the other, Le Bandit Hold & Win ends up feeling like cheap content recycling more than a proper new entry in the series.
