First thing I thought was: okay, poor Smokey’s got no rest – Hacksaw takes the raccoon on another foray. What is it, my fifth review of a Le slot in a month? Second thought was: why would you call a game Sortudo if the Le series isn’t even close to how slots in this genre usually play out? An attempt to draw attention from a different audience?

Well, the answer is yes, obviously – but I was also wrong about the rest. Le Sortudo really does play in a way we know these games do. Hacksaw Gaming decided to take the franchise in a different direction here, mixing trending mechanics with its own established formula. The result is, well, something… But hey, it’s not a reskin, at least.

So, let’s move on and start talking about the game in detail. First things first, the distinctive feature of all those Sortudo/de Sorte/Lucky and whatever else they are called is the tiny 3x3 grid. To blend in, Hacksaw’s Le Sortudo switches from the usual large playing field common to the Le series to the genre-standard setup.

That also means players won’t see Cluster Pays and Super Cascades here, which is already a pretty major departure for the series. Once the bonus ends, all Coin, Jackpot Marker, and Pot of Gold values are added together and multiplied by the bet to form the final payout.

Rainbow Epic Drop Hold & Win

Le Sortudo also has a stronger version of the Hold & Win round, called Rainbow Epic Drop. This bonus is activated by landing 1 Epic Rainbow Scatter symbol in the base game, and it starts with the same 3 refilling lives as the regular feature.

The mechanics remain the same, but the starting setup is much stronger. A full grid of Coin, Jackpot Marker, Pot of Gold, and Clover symbols is guaranteed from the beginning, with at least one Coin symbol and one Pot of Gold symbol included. That means the feature immediately starts with something meaningful to collect, multiply, and pay out.

Another important upgrade is the Coin floor. In this mode, any Coin symbol during the feature will have a value of at least 1x, removing the smallest coin values from the equation.

Le Sortudo keeps the bonus buy menu very simple compared to most Hacksaw releases. There are only two FeatureSpins options here (not that it’s not enough), both tied directly to the Hold & Win rounds rather than regular bonus hunting or extra gimmicks:

Theme & Graphics

Graphically, there isn’t much to complain about here. It’s Hacksaw, so the textures are sharp, the animations are polished, and the whole thing has that vibrant cartoon finish the Le series usually delivers. On a purely visual level, Le Sortudo looks good.

Thematically, though, this is perhaps the weakest entry in the series. No offence to Brazilian readers, of course. Smokey has gone to Rio, and the backdrop itself is charming enough – lush greenery, a cosy street with colourful buildings, and the famous Christ the Redeemer statue sitting in the distance. It’s bright, sunny, and easy on the eyes.

Smokey himself also gets the expected outfit change, wearing a Brazil cap, sunglasses, and a green shirt… while holding a crowbar in his hand. So yeah, he still reeks of mischief, but that’s no secret by now. We know this fella is a bandit, and Hacksaw underlines it again with the whole “beachy disguise to steal the max win” idea.

The problem is that the theme doesn’t feel fully committed. The reels include flip-flops, soda cans, beer mugs, and the usual card royals, which fit the casual Brazilian street vibe to some extent. But then the game also borrows Coins, Clovers, Pots of Gold, and Rainbow symbols from other Le releases, and those don’t really match the angle at all. It feels like a half-measure – part Sortudo street slot, part recycled Le feature kit.

Le Sortudo is a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, we’re all tired of reskins that bring nothing new to the table and keep recycling the same mechanics over and over. On the other hand, those reskins clearly have fans, and players do love the classic Le formula, which is exactly why Hacksaw keeps making them.

Here, the studio actually deviates from that formula and takes the series in a different direction. No Cluster Pays, no Super Cascades, no usual large grid – instead, Le Sortudo goes for a compact 3x3 setup built around Hold & Win respins.

Sortudo players will probably appreciate this type of gameplay. Classic Le fans, though? I’m not sure they’ll be as happy about it. The lower 2,500x cap, simpler math profile, and stripped-back structure. It’s fresh, yes, but not exactly in the way long-time Le regulars might want.

So, I can Le Sortudo pushing existing fans away and pulling new ones in at the same time. As a Le slot, it feels odd. But as an experiment, I respect it. At least this one actually tries something different, and after so many Smokey reskins, that alone is worth acknowledging.
