This third installment takes you back to a sun-drenched Spain, where bullfighting (Corrida) is the big event all the townsfolk talk about. Make no mistake, Wild Toro 3 is packed to the gills with features, and this time you even get a dedicated hold and win-style bonus round.

However, before we get to the heart of the matter, let’s cover the basics. You can choose bet levels ranging from €0.20 to €100 per spin, which should work for most types of players. Wild Toro 3 plays out on a 5x4 grid with 178 win lines, and you win by landing 3 to 5 matching symbols across at least one of these lines, starting from the leftmost reel. The sun and moon button above the X-iter menu switches the game between Day (normal volatility) and Night (high volatility) modes. You can land Torito sticky wilds on reels 2, 3, and 4, and these wilds expand the grid by adding a row while also granting a respin. You get only one respin regardless of the number of Torito wilds you land, and the respin is not granted if there is a walking Toro wild present. You can expand the grid up to 7 rows in height, which gives you 421 ways to win. If a Toro wild is present, the Torito wilds work as follows:

• Blue Torito - turns scatters on the reels into wilds.
• Green Torito - doubles the Toro wild multiplier.
• Red Torito - takes on the Toro wild’s multiplier.

Matadors & Toro Goes Loco

The Matador walking wild symbols can appear on reels 2, 3, and 4, and they grant a respin for each step to the left until they move off the grid. If at least one Matador wild is present when a Toro wild lands, the Toro Goes Loco feature triggers. The Toro wild then chases all present Matador wilds, knocking them off the grid while leaving wild symbols in its wake. There are 3 different Matador wilds, and they work as follows:

• Brave Matador - adds a muleta multiplier wild to the reel before being knocked off the grid.
• Coward Matador - runs to the edge of the grid before being knocked off, increasing the number of wilds added by the Toro chase.
• Regular Matador - remains at the current position until being knocked off the grid.

Golden Rose Bonus Round

Landing the Toro wild together with a Golden Rose triggers the Golden Rose bonus round as the Toro collects the Golden Rose. If the Golden Rose lands without any Toro wild symbol present, it substitutes for the regular red rose pay symbols. The bonus round plays out on a 5x7-sized grid with a 2x2-sized Toro wild present at all times. During the feature, only blanks, golden rose prize symbols, Toritos, and regular Matador symbols may land.

You start with 3 “lives” (represented by hearts) in the counter, and you lose one life per free spin. However, whenever you land at least one Matador symbol in view, the lives counter resets to 3 again. The Torito symbols trigger different features determined by their color, and these work as follows:

• Blue Torito - adds Golden Rose symbols to empty positions and/or adds to the value of already present Golden Rose symbols.
• Green Torito - doubles the value of a random number of Golden Roses.
• Red Torito - turns into a Golden Rose with a value equal to the sum of the value of all present Golden Roses.

The ever-present 2x2-sized Toro knocks Matador symbols off the grid, collecting Golden Rose prize symbols along its path, which adds their values to the win counter. Every Matador the Toro knocks off the grid adds a token to a meter. Each collection of 3 tokens in this meter doubles the win multiplier, which starts at x1. When the Toro has knocked all Matadors off the grid, the Toro’s win counter is boosted by the win multiplier before being reset for the next free spin.

The Golden Rose bonus round ends when you run out of lives, which means landing 3 consecutive free spins with no Matador symbols. After numerous detours in different offshoot releases, it’s nice to finally be back where it all started. While ELK has not gone overboard with the visuals in Wild Toro 3, the presentation is still pleasing to the eyes. The Flamenco-style soundtrack creates a relaxing atmosphere, allowing the game to shine through its many twists and turns. If nothing else, this release proves that there is still plenty of life left in the Toro vs Matador rivalry concept.

Taking into consideration how many times we have encountered this theme by now, dressed up in different ways, it’s impressive that Wild Toro 3 still feels fresh as new. While many providers churn out rehashed clones, ELK goes the extra mile to deliver a brand new experience each time. The Day and Night modes offer different risk profiles, with the volatile Night mode benefitting from the exclusive Midnight Bullfight feature.

This random feature is not to be underestimated either, as it can deliver full-grid wild wins boosted by significant multipliers.
