Oxygen 2 Review

The ridge of Coral Creek is, I guess, the final resting place of a submarine or another type of metal aquatic vessel. The renowned iGaming developer ELK Studios mentioned this mysterious place in its 2023 Oxygen slot, and in March 2025, we are all anxiously waiting for the sequel - Oxygen 2.

ELK Studios is known for its fascinating view over the industry and the incredibly creative slot series. There are too many on the list, and I'll limit myself to mentioning Pirots, Tropicool, and Nitropolis. But I must not get too distracted as we have a fantastic marine adventure ahead of us!

Oxygen 2 comes as a twisted upgrade of the original game with kept mechanics and some features and a pack of new side modifiers. The grid didn't change much and comes with 6 reels and 7 rows of Dropping Symbols. The Cluster Pays mechanics with unlimited cascades generate identical payout potential.

Symbols must create formations of at least 5 of a kind to pay according to the Paytable. There are 6 tiers of cash rewards up to 16+ of the same type. As usual, ELK Studios has added Autoplay, Quickplay, and its favorite Bonus Buy panel - X-iter. Several other technical settings are also at hand!

Oxygen 2 Slot - Game Screen

Oxygen 2’s key phrase is “Recoded Below” referring to life underwater. It seems that the inhabitants have mutated, and now parts of their bodies look like machinery, and "flesh is woven together with metal". Octopuses continue to be the most generous ocean creatures and pay from 1x to 100x the bet.

The pink toothy Fish follows with rewards between 0.50x and 5x. Seahorses and green fish are replaced by Crabs and Snails that pay up to 30x and 25x, respectively. The low-valued symbols this time appear as pink, orange, and green widgets that float, and they pay in this order up to 20x, 15x, and 10x the bet.

Oxygen 2 offers several types of wild symbols - Blaster Wild, Exploding Wild, and Wild. The last one substitutes for all the regular symbols and helps create larger and more frequent cluster wins. The other two types of wilds have special powers, which I'll explain in the following paragraphs.

The Oxygen 2 follows the math model of its prequel - 94% and comes with slightly higher levels of volatility - 8 points out of 10. The Hit Frequency rate is lower, though - 29.40% compared to 36% in Oxygen. The max win and max exposure are kept untouched - 25,000x the bet or up to €2.5 million. Bets are also identical and range from €0.20 up to €100 per spin.

Oxygen 2 Features

Oxygen 2 is packed with a new set of side features in addition to the progressive multiplier spots. Players will frequently spot Big Symbols as well, of 2x2, 3x3, and 4x4 sizes, and they can also have their own multipliers. Oxygen Bubbles & Multiplier Strike

The Avalanche mechanic starts with a symbol drop, and if any clusters are formed, symbols will disappear. The rest will be affected by gravity and will fall down, while new ones will come from above. Oxygen Bubbles activate on the positions where symbols have exploded for the first time.

If new explosions occur during the same spin drops, multipliers of the respective positions will double up. The maximum value of each multiplier is x2,048, and all values are summed up before being applied to a cash win if such occurs. Multiplier Strike is a random feature that will add a random number of multipliers to the grid.

Special Wild Symbols

Exploding Wild activates an Exploding feature when it is part of winning clusters. Two cone-shaped areas appear to the left and right or up and down of the symbol. All payout symbols falling in that area will be removed, and new ones will drop from above. Special wilds in the area will be activated. Super Exploding Wild activates all the Bubbles behind the removed symbols that haven't been activated already.

Blaster Wild activates when it's part of a cluster, and it randomly selects one of the regularly-paying symbols or regular wild. Blaster Wild will explode and form "X" or "+" shaped patterns, transforming all symbols on the way into the selected regular or wild symbol. Characters affected by more than one Blast Wild will turn into regular wilds.

Jellyfish & Octopus Features

Jellyfish Feature is random and may activate at the beginning of any drop or free drop. One or many Jellyfish will appear carrying a random multiplier, and they will stop at a random number of symbol positions, adding that multiplier. If, on the spot, a multiplier value already exists, it'll be added to the Jellyfish carried multiplier.

Octopus Feature is also random, and it may activate at the beginning of any spin. It'll place itself behind a randomly selected symbol position. Octopus will trigger if the position becomes part of a winning cluster. It'll collect a random number of the Bubble multipliers outside of the cluster and will add them to the cluster multiplier to increase the current payout.

Free Spins

Three Bonus Symbols in view activate Free Spins and award 10 free drops with persistent Bubbles. Their multipliers do not reset between the free drops and are progressive until they reach the caps of x2,048. The Octopus feature is also persistent, but it moves behind a different position for every free drop.

Four Bonus Symbols in the base game activate the Super Bonus Game and 10 free drops with all the extras mentioned above. In addition, the Jellyfish feature will activate on every new spin. Two or three Bonus symbols add 3 and 5 free drops to the remaining balance, respectively, while 4 Bonus symbols upgrade the Bonus Game to Super Bonus Game and add 7 extra drops.

X-iter Bonus Buy

The X-iter feature is a Bonus Buy panel offering up to 5 different options at certain prices, as shown below. Depending on your selected bet, the minimum and maximum X-iter prices can be €0.60 and €50,000. The RTP rate of Oxygen 2 does not change if you activate one of the features.

• Bonus Hunt - 3x the bet - more than triple the chance to land 3 or more bonus symbols.
• Special Wilds - 10x the bet - at least 3 special wild symbols are guaranteed to drop.
• Octo Strike - 25x the bet - at least one Multiplier Strike and the Octopus feature are guaranteed to activate.
• Bonus Game - 100x the bet - a guaranteed landing of 3 bonus symbols.
• Super Bonus Game - 500x the bet - a guaranteed landing of 4 bonus symbols.

Theme & Graphics

Oxygen 2 comes as a fresh breeze or as a cool undercurrent, whatever you find more appropriate, and fascinates with every spin. The game is a great example of what iGaming analysts call "mesmerizing", as each detail looks revamped and upgraded. Visuals are up to the highest tier, and the audio tunes are quite "sticky".

ELK Studios has wonderfully developed this Underwater theme, with action taking place down there in the deep where oxygen is far from being enough. However, marine life does not seem bothered; it flourishes in shapes and forms that Darwin's theory of evolution won't agree with. The slot is perfectly compatible with desktop and mobile devices. So, I guess the best way to evaluate the game for yourself is to run the Oxygen 2 demo or real money version.

Our Verdict

Oxygen 2 is a fantastic bubbly slot that will most certainly cater to any fan of modern gambling. ELK Studios has acted differently this time and has kept the core of the Oxygen game alive. Both the original and the sequel are clearly inspired by Sugar Rush, produced by Pragmatic Play in 2022.

The Multiplier Spots feature has now evolved under the creative energy of at least a dozen studios. I like the interpretation of Massive Studios in the upcoming Jawsome slot, where the max win can hit 50,000x the bet. The Travelling Wilds and Golden Shell features are pretty amazing. However, both Jawsome and Sugar Rush, along with many other similar slots, lack one key element.

Oxygen 2 is simply more mesmerizing and more immersive than pretty much all the others. It also has the lowest RTP rate combined with high volatility. In theory, that should put off quite a few players, especially with so many alternative titles out there. But it doesn't, and I'm confident that Oxygen 2 will outrank Oxygen in popularity.

The combination of side features like Multiplier Strike, Octopus, Jellyfish, and special wilds is quite effective. When we add the Cluster Pays mechanic with Bubble multipliers, we already have a masterpiece. Moreover, the max win continues to be quite juicy - 25,000x and with the potential to hit a spectacular €2.5 million!
