Labu Run is the newest online gambling game released by the Armenian software provider PoggiPlay. It was released in September, just a couple of months after the developer’s debut in this category with Chicken Run. The new one comes with an exciting twist and a more than curious selection of a theme inspired by two hypes - Squid Game and Labubu.

PoggiPlay is a rather boutique game developer that was founded in 2020 and operates via headquarters in the capital city of Yerevan. The company started with a couple of well-designed online slots in 2022 - Purple Fox and Super City. PoggiPlay quickly built a solid portfolio of 30+ titles and started with experiments in other iGaming genres.

Labu Run is a Step Multiplier Game that offers increasing multipliers on every step, very similar to Chicken Run and other titles. The design, however, is unique, and the presence of a bonus minigame, although quite simple, is refreshing. The Labu character must jump from one platform to another, similar to the Glass Stepping Stones game in the original movie.

Instead of holes, each platform comes with a closed door, and behind it are rather Pink Soldiers or piles of cash. Understandably, soldiers will end your turn, but if you step on a safe platform, you can either continue or cash out. The good news is that if you fail, another Labu is ready to make an attempt. The bet, however, is lost for good!

Labu Run has a beautifully designed interface, which is also very easy to use. Among the technicals, players will find sound controls, Turbo Mode, and Spacebar Play, but no Autoplay. There are 4 difficulty levels - Easy, Medium, Hard, and Hardcore, displayed on the left, and you can switch from one to another at the start of each round.

These levels also reflect the different volatility of the game, and the sizes of the increasing multipliers vary. The path is also different, starting with 20 steps in Easy, going through 16 and 12 in Medium and Hard, and reaching just 10 in Hardcore. However, the odds of Pink Soldiers appearing also change accordingly.

Easy Mode offers multipliers from 1.10x to 250x the bet, while Medium pays from 1.20x to 1,000x. The Hard and Hardcore paths start from 1.40x and 1.60x, and end at 2,000x and 5,000x, respectively. The ultimate prize is never easy to get, and the massive pile of cash hidden in the transparent piggy bank will require one last effort.

Remember that Labu Run can be ended on any step, including the first one! The betting range is relatively wide and configurable, meaning that it may vary from one online casino to another. The default options are €0.50 to €100 per round. The Labu Run RTP rate is 95% and the max win is 5,000x the bet, both identical to the parameters of Chicken Run.

Labu Run does not offer in-game promotions, like the Avirace Tournaments in Aviator, but has one special feature. It is rather connected to the game’s theme and offers diversity rather than extra profits. It is mandatory that the last challenge in any difficult level will be a candy box. If you decide to continue, it will reveal either a triangle, circle, star, or umbrella figure.

This bonus game is usually characterized by a slightly higher win multiplier if you manage to cut out the figure successfully. You’ll use a needle, like in the original game, but don’t worry, the process is automated and the result is entirely determined by the RNG. If the candy breaks during the cutting, the round will be lost.

If the figure is intact at the end, the multiplier will be won and the player will be able to make a choice: continue or cash out. The umbrella figure is the toughest object for cutting out and it will be available only at the final step of the round. Labu Run might not be the multiplier-step game with the highest payout rate, but it comes with a cleverly built concept. The Labubu theme has Money motifs, just like the South Korean franchise “Squid Game” on which it is based. The Asian flavor is easy to feel everywhere, as the Labubu plush toys are created by an illustrator from Hong Kong.

The premium graphics, pastel colors, and smooth gameplay definitely make the game stand out. Despite the 2D interface, there is depth here that is missing in most games offering chickens to cross roads. The audio package is also exciting, while the full mobile compatibility is rather expected.

Our Verdict

Labu Run is an intriguing addition to the growing iGaming category that will certainly deliver more excitement among the fans. Surely, the design and gameplay are what will attract players the most, along with the max win of 5,000x and the opportunity of choosing between 4 modes. All that, however, is common in the genre!

Moreover, the RTP rate (95%) is far from the best, which is usually between 96% and 99%. A good example is Chicken Road and Chicken Road 2.0, which are both performing better than Labu Run in this characteristic. They are designed by InOut Games and offer max wins of €20,000.

While I’m on the subject, I must highlight one more game - Uncrossable Rush offered by Evoplay and using SlotCatalog’s unique CrossyRun mechanic. The title pays up to 10,000x and has a payout rate of 96%. So, as you can see, the technical parameters of Labu Run are not particularly impressive, but the gameplay is why I recommend the title to everyone who feels thrilled by Step Multiplier Games!
