Huff N’ Puff Haunted Mansion Review
Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion is a Light & Wonder slot from the Huff N' Puff series. You may already know the three little pigs from games like Huff N' Puff Money Mansion and Huff N' More Puff. Behind the reels is an old mansion. There are pumpkins on the ground, a few gravestones and plenty of Halloween decorations. The base game uses a 5×3 layout, with 243 ways to win. Wins are counted from the leftmost reel. Halloween is played on a bigger 5×4 grid, with 1,024 ways. RTP is 96%, with medium volatility and a top prize of 5,600x your bet.
The three pigs pay more than the other regular symbols. There's a green Frankenstein pig, a scarecrow pig and one dressed as a skeleton. The other symbols are a black cat, a candle and the card ranks from 9 to A. The wolf acts as the Wild, but only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4.

Mystery Stacked Reels is one of the things to watch for during the base game. Before a spin, the feature can fill selected positions with matching pig symbols. It's a fairly simple mechanic, but it gives the regular spins something extra. The background music and sound effects have a Halloween feel, but the game doesn't take itself too seriously. The pigs in their monster costumes are quite funny to watch. The pigs look ridiculous in their Halloween outfits, which is pretty much what I'd expect from this series.
Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion Features
Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion has quite a few features, and they're connected in ways that aren't immediately obvious. The most important things to understand are Pumpkins, Bone Frames and the coffins that appear at the end of bonus rounds.
Mystery Stacked Reels
Mystery Stacked Reels can appear at random during the base game. Before the reels start spinning, certain positions are replaced by one of the three Piggy symbols. These are the highest-paying regular symbols, so getting several of the same pig on the reels can help with winning combinations. There's nothing you need to do to activate it.
Ghost Pigs and Pumpkins
Ghost Pigs can appear across one or several reels during the base game. They're important because they count towards triggering Free Spins, along with Pumpkin symbols. You need six or more Ghost Pigs and Pumpkins in total to start the bonus. The Pumpkins also determine where the first White Bone Frames will appear once Free Spins begin.
Free Spins Feature
You get six spins when the Free Spins feature starts. Any Pumpkin positions from the triggering spin become White Bone Frames, and these stay on the reels until the bonus finishes. New Pumpkins can add frames to empty positions or upgrade existing ones. Landing three or more Pumpkins during the feature gives you one extra spin.
Bone Frames and Coffin Prizes
Bone Frames appear in all four spin-based bonus rounds. They come in White, Red and Gold, and their colour determines which coffin you'll receive at the end.
In Free Spins, Torch-Up and Halloween, a Pumpkin adds a White Frame to an empty position. If there's already a White Frame there, it becomes Red. A Red Frame turns Gold when another Pumpkin lands on it.
A Pumpkin landing on a Gold Frame isn't wasted, either. It can upgrade another frame, or add a new one if there's nothing left to upgrade. If every position already has a Gold Frame, you receive 7.5x your bet instead.
The frames stay where they are throughout the bonus. Once the spins finish, they turn into coffins with different prizes:
- Coffin 1 (White): 0.5x to 1.5x your bet
- Coffin 2 (Red): 1.5x to 5x, Mini (20x) or Minor (100x)
- Coffin 3 (Gold): 7.5x to 75x, Mini (20x), Minor (100x) or a BONUS symbol
The BONUS symbol is particularly useful. If one appears in a Gold Coffin, you'll enter Haunted Mansion after all the other coffins have opened. No more than one Gold Coffin can reveal a BONUS symbol at the end of the same round.
Haunted Mansion Feature
Haunted Mansion starts when you land at least three BONUS symbols in the base game. A Gold Coffin can also send you there. You could leave with a multiplier prize, one of the four jackpots or another bonus round. Not every visit to Haunted Mansion leads to Free Spins. Sometimes you'll get a prize of 5x, 10x or as much as 75x your bet. Bigger amounts are found in the Blue Zone (250x–500x) and Gold Zone (750x–4,000x).
The four jackpots are also on the board, from the 20x Mini and 100x Minor to the 1,000x Major and 5,000x Grand. And instead of a cash prize, you could get six spins in Torch-Up, Halloween or Graveyard. Each gives you six spins, although the starting setup is different.
Torch-Up Feature
Torch-Up gives you six spins with White Bone Frames already on the reels. Between two and five reels are selected, with at least two framed positions on each. From there, you're looking for Pumpkins to improve those frames. They can turn White Frames into Red ones, upgrade Red to Gold or add frames to positions that don't have any. At the end, every frame becomes a coffin. Starting with several White Frames is helpful, but you'll still need Pumpkins to turn them into something more valuable.
Halloween Feature
Halloween is the only bonus that changes the reel size. You get a 5×4 grid instead of the usual 5×3, so there are 1,024 ways to win rather than 243. It starts with six spins and five to ten White Bone Frames scattered around the reels. You can collect more frames during the round, and Pumpkins can upgrade the ones you already have.

Graveyard Feature
Graveyard is the one I'd be most interested in landing. You can begin with up to three Gold Bone Frames, and any Pumpkin that lands on an empty position creates another Gold Frame straight away. That means you skip the White and Red stages entirely. If a Pumpkin lands on an existing Gold Frame, it can add a Gold Frame somewhere else, provided there's an empty position. Once the grid is full of Gold Frames, further Pumpkins landing on those frames pay 7.5x your bet. All the Gold Frames turn into Coffin 3 symbols when the six spins end. They can reveal prizes of 7.5x to 75x, Mini or Minor jackpots, or even another trip to Haunted Mansion.
Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion Theme & Graphics
The pigs look a little different in this Halloween slot. One has green Frankenstein-style skin, another wears a scarecrow outfit, and the third is dressed as a skeleton. There's a haunted house behind the reels, with pumpkins and gravestones nearby.
It's still very much a Huff N' Puff game, though. The characters have the same silly expressions, and even the spooky music doesn't make it feel particularly scary.
Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion Free Play
The coffin prizes are probably the first thing I'd pay attention to in the Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion demo. It's worth seeing how the Pumpkins upgrade Bone Frames and what happens when a Gold Coffin reveals a BONUS symbol.
Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion free play is also a good way to get used to the different bonus rounds. The demo runs on virtual credits, so you can spend some time figuring out the differences between Torch-Up, Halloween and Graveyard.

Pros

- Gold Coffins can trigger another Haunted Mansion feature
- Halloween bonus expands the grid to 1,024 ways
Cons

- Lower RTP versions also exist

- Regular spins are less interesting than the bonuses
- Several features use similar mechanics
Our Verdict
Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion is worth trying if you enjoy slots with several bonus rounds. I particularly like the Graveyard feature, where Pumpkins create Gold Bone Frames straight away. Watching the coffins open at the end is probably my favourite part of the game, especially when there's a chance of triggering Haunted Mansion again. The base game is fairly ordinary, though. Mystery Stacked Reels adds some variety, but most of the interesting stuff happens during the bonuses. The Bone Frame rules also take a little getting used to, and I can see why someone might find them confusing on their first few spins.
Compared with other Huff N' Puff games, this one doesn't change the formula very much. The Halloween theme is fun, and the different starting conditions in Torch-Up, Halloween and Graveyard give you something to look forward to. With a 96% RTP and a maximum win of 5,600x your bet, it's a decent addition to the series, although I'd recommend it more for the bonus features than the regular gameplay.
