Fat Fish Festival

Fat Fish Festival Review

Fat Fish Festival is the latest slot release of the Wales-based iGaming provider Wishbone. The title was released in the last week of March and offers dynamic play, stacked wilds, and a Bonus Game with a significant payout potential. If you are a fan of the modern, scatter-collect online slots, this review is just for you!

We are all fans of the Fishing hype that slots like Big Bass Bonanza started several years ago, offering wild collections, multipliers, and tons of cash rewards. Wishbone has mixed the concept with scatter-collect mechanics, packing Fat Fish Festival with a bonus minigame that features up to 4 different enhancements.

The company was established in 2022, and it's part of the Games Global studio affiliate portfolio. In other words, Wishbone crafts content exclusively for the leading provider and benefits from its resources. Fat Fish Festival has a 5x4 grid with 20 fixed paylines, oriented from left to right and starting from the leftmost reel.

In the base game, they deliver sweet payouts according to the Paytable, but no modifiers are in play. The big catch is during the Free Spins bonus, which I'll introduce later in this review article. Players can use common technical features to facilitate their play, including Quickspin, Autoplay, and Buy Feature.

Fat Fish Festival Slot - Reels Screen

Fat Fish Festival is packed with Fishing-themed symbols that pay for 3, 4, or 5 of a kind. The wild symbol is available in all slot stages and substitutes for the other regulars. Widls also bring the highest payout when lined up - 1x, 2x, and 10x, and often land in stacks on one or more reels.

Boat is the next highest-paying symbol with rewards of 0.50x, 1x, and 5x the bet. It’s followed by Fishing Rod - 0.40x, 0.80x, and 4x, Fishing Hook - 0.30x, 0.60x, and 3x, and Can of Worms - 0.20x, 0.40x, and 2x. The low-valued symbols in play are A, K, Q, J, and 10, paying 0.10x, 0.20x, and 1x the bet.

The Fat Fish Festival RTP rate is quite decent - 96.25%, while the Hit Frequency coefficient is 28.14%. The slot game is characterized by medium to high levels of volatility, or 4 out of 5 on the provider's scale. Bets vary in the range from €0.20 to €40 per spin, and the max win is capped at 6,000x the bet, or up to €240,000.

Fat Fish Festival Features

As I already mentioned, Fat Fish Festival lacks base game modifiers out of the stacked wilds, which are not reported as a special feature. However, the bonus round is quite exciting, and it can be played with 1, 2, 3, or 4 active enhancements at the same time. You can find out more in the following lines:

Fisherman Symbols

Fishermen are scatters and may land anywhere on the grid during the base game and in the Free Spins bonus. They contribute to the Chests displayed above each reel and can activate the bonus with 1 to 4 enhancements on any spin. If you land 5 Fisherman symbols during the base game, they will automatically award the max win of 6,000x the stake!

Bonus Game

Chests above the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th reel can activate special modifiers - Multiplier, Adder, Symbol Upgrade, and Respin. The Fisherman symbols can trigger the bonus on any spin by contributing to these Chests. Those of them that are hit can crack and activate an enhancement as displayed below.

Each of these Chests awards 10 free spins if activated initially, and any other that is also triggered adds 3 extra spins. Golden Chest on reel 3 awards 19 bonus spins with all 4 modifiers in play. Moreover, there is a chance for all of them to be boosted after their values have been already determined and before the first free spin.

Fish symbols are added to the reels during the Bonus Game, and each one has a cash value between 0.20x and 1,000x the bet. Each Fisherman is a Cash Collector and collects all the Fish and Upgraded Symbols values in free spins. During the minigame, any non-active Chests can be triggered by the Fisherman scatters. However, the already activated enhancements can't be additionally boosted.

• Multiplier - starts from x2 and can be increased by x1 up to x5 via every “X” symbol during the bonus. The bonus multiplier is applied on all Fish or Upgraded Symbols at the end of a Fisherman collection sequence;
• Adder - starts from 1x the bet and is increased by 1x for each “+”symbol during the bonus. The max value is 5x the bet. It'll be added to every Fish or Upgraded Symbol at the end of a Fisherman collection sequence;
• Symbol Upgrade - monterey values are added to the lowest-paying symbols, starting with the Ten. Each "Arrow Up" symbol upgrades the next low symbol in the line - J, Q, K, and A. These symbols are also collected by the Fisherman symbols;
• Respin - activates a classic Hold & Win bonus mechanic with up to 3 Hearts (respins). The first Heart is automatically awarded upon enhancement activation. Every additional "Heart" symbol that lands adds another Heart to the Chest. Whenever at least one Fisherman lands, it'll stick to its position, along with all Fish and Upgraded Symbols. The other positions will respin, and all new symbols of those kinds will also stick. A Heart symbol will be removed for any non-winning respin.

Bonus Buy

Fat Fish Festival is packed with a Buy Feature functionality, which can be subject to regulatory restrictions. In other words, it might not be available in all casino sites. The Bonus Buy feature allows the purchase of the Golden Chest only at the hefty price of 300x the bet. However, the benefits of this bonus game are massive, and the potential outcome after the 19 free spins can be legendary!

Theme & Graphics

Fat Fish Festival is a classic online slot with a Fishing theme and Collect mechanics. It comes with rather generic audio and visual effects, fully in the style of Wishbone. Graphics are of the finest quality, but the static background and simple animations won't make you stare at the screen on every spin.

That's the approach of the Cardiff-headquartered provider, and I respect it, but if you are after more visually stunning games, this doesn't fit the description. On the other hand, Fat Fish Festival is light and easy to load via any browser and on any device. It’s an HTML5 slot, and therefore, it is fully compatible with Android and iOS mobiles.

Pros And Cons Of Fat Fish Festival Slot

Our Verdict

At first glance, Fat Fish Festival is a nice Fish-collection slot with more exciting ways of cashing out wins compared to other similar games. However, a closer look at Wishbone's slotography shows that the title is actually a reskinned sequel to the provider's flagman Kingfisher series.

The first slot was released in May 2024 and offers identical play to the Fat Fish Festival with the same enhancements. The max win is lower, though - 5,300x the bet and Buy Feature is missing. In September, Wishbone presented Kingfisher Rising with slightly improved visuals and a win cap lifted to 6,000x the stake.

Just before Christmas, the studio re-released the game in a snowy variant - Kingfisher Winterborn and the same features and characteristics. Another sequel came out in February 2025 - Kingfisher of the Caribbean to introduce Buy Feature and Bet Booster to the fans. The technical numbers, layout, and features remain the same!

Fat Fish Festival also doesn't bring anything new to the play, except for the even more tranquil setting. Perhaps Wishbone is searching for the best presentation of the concept, although the idea is good, and there is plenty of room for improvement. A good example might be the Big Bass Bonanza series by Reel Kingdom.

There are 6 official sequels to the original game and 7 official installments in total, along with dozens of copies by other studios. And despite the fact that the core mechanic remains untouched, the provider always adds something new to the action, sparking the players' curiosity. Fat Fish Festival has solid potential, and I highly recommend testing our free demo if you have reached so far!
