Fortunium Gold is the second steampunk-inspired title of September 2020, following, and as well as Neon Valley's Noble Sky it's developed in conjunction with Microgaming. 2 years have passed since the release of Fortunium, and now it gets a sequel with a huge power-up - the potential of 'Millionaire Maker', namely Mega Moolah, the super-popular Microgaming's title with a big name.
Once again you have a chance to wander through the steampunk surroundings of the fictional city. When it comes to the design, it's almost identical to the original Fortunium, and, to be honest, the HUD did undergo the most drastic changes. We have to pay tribute to the design team of the first part of the game since it still looks pleasing to the eye. True to the genre, steampunk combines historical elements, mostly from the 19th century, with fictional steam-powered machinery, so the city with Victorian-style architectural constructions with pipes, gears, and cogs as well as bizarre skyscrapers make up the backdrop. Thanks to the developers' meticulous approach to the design everything looks brilliant and depicted in detail. The soundtrack is on spot too, as a dramatic soundtrack plays whilst you spin the reels. It fits the gameplay perfectly and picks up the tempo when you hit bonus features, adding a final touch to the atmosphere.
The symbol collection offers a bunch of recognizable symbols, that are identical to those included in the first Fortunium. The pay symbols start at the low end with card suits represented by colorful gems, including spades, hearts, clubs, and diamonds. They are followed by a gun, an airship, and a treasure chest. Those who have ever tried the original are already familiar with Maximillian and Victoria, who are the top stars here. All the symbols appear double stacked while the top-pays may land 1x5 in size. There's also a Wild symbol included, which acts as a substitute to any other regular symbols and at the same time is the most rewarding among all the regulars on top of everything, so keep an eye for these specials.
The payouts are decent actually and you can benefit even from the low pays. At least 3 symbols on a line are required to score a win, while the highest rewards are given for matching 5 instances of the same symbol on a single line.
The slot is played across a 5x5 reel set with 40 ways to play. Due to the jackpot mechanic, the RTP did a nosedive in comparison to the original title and now it's at 92.67%, which is way below the average level within the industry. It's necessary to mention, that there's a 5.3% contribution to the jackpots. Fortunium Gold is powered by a medium volatile math model, and paired with the 31.56% hit rate wins will occur fairly often as theoretically almost every third spin will be a winning one.
At least 0.1$ is required to spin the reels, and the highest bet option reaches 15$ per spin. A pretty meager betting range for sure, however, there's no need to blame Stormcraft since hitting the progressive jackpot has always been the aim in all Mega Moolah's jackpot mechanic-powered games. All you can win aside from the jackpots don't exceed 800x of the bet, so don't expect to win more than 12,000$ on a single spin unless you make it to the jackpot wheel.
As the title implies, the progressive jackpot system is the highlight here, though, there is a couple of in-game extras to entertain you throughout the session. As well as everything in the game except for the Mega Moolah upgrade, the feature set is similar to the original Fortunium.
The game is focused around Mystery Symbols, which appear super stacked and may cover the entire reel to reveal the same instances of a randomly chosen symbol. There are 2 kinds of Mystery symbols, green and yellow, with green being able to reveal only regular symbols, while the yellow ones can reveal Wilds and Jackpot Wilds. However, you won't be able to land yellow Mystery Symbols unless you activate the Win Booster feature. It increases your bet by 1.5x to allow you to land yellow mystery specials.
It's wise to keep the Win Bosteer activated as it's then carried over to the Free Spins, which can be triggered by landing 3 or more Scatters anywhere onto the grid. The more Scatters you manage to get, the more mystery reels will be added for the duration of the feature. You can also benefit from the Scatter Pay when triggering the Free Spins, with 3, 4, and 5 Scatters awarding 2, 20, and 100 times the stake respectively.
You'll proceed to the bonus game with 10 spins to start and up to 3 Mystery Reels on reels 2, 3, and 4. Mystery Reels always contain only Mystery Symbols, and in case you had a Win Booster activated when triggering the Free Spins, it's possible to fill the three middle reels entirely with Wilds. Moreover, you can get more Free Spins by landing new Scatters, with each one awarding +1 spin to the tally.
As alluded to earlier, the Wilds come in 2 variants - regular ones and Jackpot Wilds. It's not hard to guess that they are the key to hitting the precious progressive jackpots. Whenever Mystery Symbols transform into Jackpot Wilds, you'll proceed to a Jackpot Wheel, which consists of 20 segments, each one displaying a particular Jackpot. The pointer will determine what payout out of 4 you'll be awarded.
All of them are progressive and the payouts are usually way higher than the initial. The average Mega Jackpot win value is 3.96$ million, and the biggest Mega Jackpot win was 18.9€ million.
It has always been the pleasure to chase the jackpot in either Mega Moolah or other games linked by the jackpot network, and it's not surprising that more and more games get that upgrade of Mega Moolah jackpot mechanic. As for the Fortunium, it has been and remains a decent option with interesting setting and features, and the sequel may become a breath of fresh air for the fans of the first part and attract new players to the Stormcraft's banger.
