Stormcraft Studios is back with another installment, building on the success of the legendary Thunderstruck and Thunderstruck 2 from a time long before Games Global acquired Microgaming and took over most of their portfolio. Predecessor Thunderstruck Stormchaser from 2022 has seen decent success, and once again, you get to rumble with the god of thunder and goddess of lightning, accompanied by a powerful heavy metal soundtrack.

You start by choosing your preferred bet level, ranging from €0.20 to €25 per spin in the Thunderstruck Stormblitz slot. The base game plays out on a 5x3 grid featuring 30 paylines, with winning combinations starting from the leftmost reel towards the right. The lower-value rune symbols pay between 1x and 1.5x your stake for 5 of a kind, while the premium symbols pay 2x to 10x your stake for the same. The premium symbols consist of jewelry boxes, horns, rings, orbs, and elixir jugs, but there are more ways to win than regular line wins in this game.

Pros and Cons of Thunderstruck Stormblitz

Our Verdict

Stormcraft Studios certainly has the correct company name for a game like this, and they have delivered decent to solid installments in this iconic series before. However, this time, I wasn’t all that impressed by the result. In this day and age, with AI generating powerful images at a whim, how in the world do you end up with what looks like a modified Windows 95 background as the backdrop of what’s supposed to be a bonecrushingly epic Norse mythology rumble? A simple Google search will yield tons of thunderstorms that look far more dramatic than this tame display.

Stormcraft would’ve been better off making the grid larger and less transparent to hide what looks like a cheap design choice unworthy not only of this series, but also of any video slot released in the post-AI era. Overall, the presentation looks dated, but at least the powerful soundtrack pulls in the right direction. That being said, it’s hard to shake the sense that Games Global, via partner studio Stormcraft, keeps churning out new games in this series purely to milk the success of the legendary original games from back in the day.

At least Stormcraft has managed to come up with a somewhat original cash and jackpot prize collection system for this release. Adding multipliers to the tower prizes can lead to significant payouts, topping out at a fairly solid 10,000x your stake. This would require the top 2,000x jackpot boosted by an x5 multiplier. Far from an unthinkable scenario, in other words. Still, the game lacks true depth and soul, and for some reason, Stormcraft has slowed down the spin pace significantly compared to previous releases. Even with the turbo switched on, it feels too sluggish.

The expanded-grid bonus round offers more ways to win, and more importantly, a win multiplier of up to x5. Other than that, the feature plays out similarly to the base game, with the goal being cash and jackpot collection. The feature can go on for quite a while, at least in my experience, as extra spins seem to come in abundance. This will, of course, vary from session to session. It’s hard to recommend this game compared to Stormcraft’s previous installments in this series, and to be honest, I still prefer the two original games from the Microgaming era.
