Retroverse Review

Retroverse is quite a catchy name for an online slot, and it immediately makes analogies with Marvel movies and Push Gaming. Well, the second is only if you are a slot enthusiast and know the work of the provider. It has been two years since we had the pleasure of enjoying the second installment of the Retro Series - Retro Sweets. Retroverse pays for clusters of 5 or more identical symbols connected vertically or horizontally. Each symbol comes with gamepad designs and 10 tiers of payouts. They can reveal Instant Prizes from 25x to 500x the bet, if there can’t be more scatters on the reels.

Instant Prizes & Special Symbols

Instant Prize is a Coin symbol with a value of 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, or 500x the bet. When 5 of them or more form a cluster, they pay their values. Retroverse also contains several special symbols available in the base game and free spins:

• Magnet Symbol - it will attract all instances of a random regular symbol across the board to create a cluster. It can attract Instant Prizes for the same purpose if there are at least 4 in view. Magnets can attract Wilds and Wild Mystery Symbols along with regulars and Instant Prizes.
• Light Gun Symbol - removes symbols from the board, all instances of 1 or 2 regular types.
• BNS Scatter - activates the Free Spins Feature when 3 or more are in view at the same time.

Free Spins Feature

Land 3, 4, 5, or 5 scatter symbols to get 6, 8, 10, or 12 free spins, respectively. Wilds, Wild Mystery Symbols, and Instant Prizes from the base game are carried over to the bonus, if any. The grid will reveal only such symbols during the feature and Blanks, Magnets, and Extra Spin symbols. The latter awards 1 or 2 extra free spins, while new wilds add 2 extra rounds each.

During the bonus round, Wild Mystery Symbols will only activate if the winning cluster contains the number of Instant Prizes and Collector Symbols displayed, or more. Retroverse extends the mechanical scripts of Retro Sweets and Retro Tapes, persisting the bonus features those two provide. It is interesting to see where Push Gaming will go with the Retro Series, as there aren’t many slots that surprise these days. Surely, fans will recognize the wilds with multipliers and Wild Mystery Symbols. They add the new vibes into the console, which only looks retro.

A brilliant detail is how wilds affect clusters when more than one participates in the same group. They apply their multipliers one after another, meaning that they are multiplicative. This and the fact that each one can go up to x10 explain why the cluster payouts can escalate rapidly.
