Mahjong Wilds 2 walks a tightrope between "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and "lazy cash-grab." UU Slots has done very little to make this follow-up stand out from the original Mahjong Wilds, released only a few months before this sequel. The 5x4 grid has been replaced by a somewhat slimmer 4-5-5-5-4 layout, but other than that, you’re in for pretty much the same cascading wins multiplier experience.

You start by choosing your preferred bet level, ranging from €0.2 to €200, as before, which should satisfy most types of players. You can turn on quick spin to increase the pace, and the autoplay feature comes with an additional turbo spins mode and up to 1,000 hands-free spins. Cascading Wins & Progressive Multiplier

Winning symbols are removed from the reels, then replaced by new symbols dropping down to fill the gaps. This process repeats as long as you keep winning, allowing for indefinite winning streaks. Mahjong Wilds 2 is essentially the same game as the original Mahjong Wilds, with the only difference being the slight change from a 5x4 grid to a 4-5-5-5-4 layout. The backdrop has changed a bit, too, or at least you’re seeing the same interior of the temple from a different angle. It’s rare to see a follow-up slot that does so little to stand out from the predecessor as what UU Slots has released here.

In addition, Mahjong Wilds 2 is not a particularly original game compared to many other similar slots, offering a popular recipe that has long since conquered both the Asian and Western markets. It all started with Gonzo's Quest a long time ago, but in Asia, they love their wild transformation features. At least it’s easier to get wilds in Mahjong Wilds 2 than in many similar games, as you don’t need to wait for silver symbols to turn golden before they can turn wild.

That being said, as a standalone game, Mahjong Wilds 2 is not a bad effort. It’s fast-paced and fun, with charming action commentary (even if you don’t understand the language). The ivory Mahjong tiles are pleasing to the eye, and the soundtrack does a great job in creating a joyful atmosphere. As you churn along in the base game, you will see plenty of cascading sequences with decent multiplier-boosted wins, and keeping afloat didn’t seem all that hard.

Still, Mahjong Wilds 2 feels like a missed opportunity. Why release a second game that’s close to being a reskin of the original? It makes no sense. At least increase the multipliers and upgrade the math model. If this were a volatile beast with a massive max win, it would be one thing, but instead, you get the same medium volatility and 3,000x win cap once again. Judging from our SlotRank system, the original wasn’t a huge success, and we doubt Mahjong Wilds 2 will fare much better since, essentially, nothing has changed.
