Inviting players on an Incan treasure hunt, it comes packed with action, featuring the popular Hold & Spin mechanic with a few tricks of its own, a bunch of jackpots, including a Local Area Progressive, and powerful Free Spins. Inca Jungle’s paytable consists of 9 regulars, which pay when 3 matching ones land adjacently on the reels starting from the leftmost. When 1 to 5 Pyramid symbols land on a base game spin, they are collected to a pot, which can randomly crack open and award the Super Hypercharged Hold and Spin feature. When the feature is awarded, the player receives 6 spins with 1 to 5 Coins placed in random positions with prizes ranging from 0.5x to 40x the bet or the Mini, Minor, or Major Jackpots. The difference this Super mode offers is that the amount of collector symbols that may land on the center position is increased, meaning they tend to appear more often during the feature. That’s it.

Free Spins

In a similar way, there’s a special pot for the Free Spins as well. When 1 or 2 Scatter symbols land in view, they are collected and may randomly grant 10 free spins. I know, it’s the style the developer stick to, paying homage to old-school slots, but I can’t say I’m a fan - the overall presentation feels more dated than stylish. Plus, it could benefit from a soundtrack; there’s none.

Our Verdict

In the end, Hypercharged Inca Jungle is a nice game, even if it’s not without its flaws. The gameplay is undeniably fun and packed with potential for big rewards, especially when taking into consideration the progressive jackpot. If you’re a fan of feature-rich slots, Inca Jungle can pique your interest - at least in terms of its mechanics.

The way gameplay operates, however… As I said, feature-rich and fun, BUT, landing those features feels like quite a challenge. While there are two special pots for random feature triggers, they don't seem very helpful. And the special symbols required to activate either the Hold and Spin or the Free Spins features are super elusive - I drained most of my balance during the test session and couldn't catch even one feature trigger. That's brutal.

Another thing, the visuals didn’t win me over. While I respect the retro aesthetic Light & Wonder is going for, it feels more outdated than nostalgic. And the lack of a soundtrack doesn’t help either. I know a lot of people do adore the old-school style, and they might like it. For players like me who appreciate a modern approach, however, Hypercharged Inca Jungle won’t impress you with its visual aesthetics.

If you’re someone who values retro visuals and doesn’t mind a grind to hit the bonuses, this might just be the right adventure for you. There’s certainly a lot to enjoy, but it won’t appeal to everyone.
