An Irish-themed game would have been a strange choice for the end of a year, but an ideal for the beginning of a new one. It seems that Australian provider High Limits Studio is on the same page, as it has announced that it will release Fourfold the Gold in the first days of January. The 3rd installment of the series promises the same Level Up mechanic and bonus games, but enhanced with even more features and extras!

High Limits Studio is one of the boutique partners of the industry leader Games Global. It was founded in 2021 and operates from its headquarters in Sydney. Fourfold the Gold follows Threefold the Gold, which was released just several months ago. Fourfold the Gold pays for landing 3, 4, or 5 symbols of the same kind on one of the paylines. Barrels pay from 1x to 8x, Horseshoes and Beer Mugs between 0.80x and 7x and 0.60x and 6x, while Leprechaun Pipes pay from 0.40x to 3x the bet. The low pays are card suits, Spades, Hearts, Clubs, and Diamonds, awarding various prizes between 0.20x and 3x the stake.

A wild symbol is also in play, and it substitutes for all the regular symbols and sometimes lands in stacks. Wilds, just like scatter symbols, do not pay direct cash but have central roles as you will find out soon. The betting range is not particularly wide and players can choose from just 10 stake levels, between €0.25 and €40 per spin.

Lucky Levels is the core mechanic of the slot series, and it offers 6 unlockable enhancers listed below. Each one requires a certain number of base game spins as displayed in the Chest Meter. Express Collect

Express Collect is a Cash Collect feature and another core mechanic of the Fourfold the Gold slot. Leprechauns are Trigger Symbols and they can land on reels 1 and 5 during the base game Sticky Free Spins, and Multiplier Free Spins. Prize Symbols carry cash values from a predetermined set in the range from 0.80x to 100x the bet.

Split Prize Symbol and Rising Prize Symbol are available in Multiplier Free Spins and Sticky Free Spins. Whenever one or two Trigger Symbols land along with at least one Prize Symbol, they expand on the respective reels. Trigger Symbols accumulate and award all the Prize Symbol values.

Wheel Bonus, Prize Multipliers & Super Wheel Bonus

Wheel Bonus is only available in the base game, and it’s directly linked to the Pot Collection mechanic. Prize Symbols that have landed and haven’t been collected will be added to the Pot on the left side of the screen. The collection animation is for aesthetic purposes only, and the feature may trigger 100% randomly. When it does, spin a Wheel of Fortune and win one of the following prizes:

Lucky Level 2 unlocks the Wheel Bonus Prize Multiplier and every time you win Mini, Maxi, or Minor, the respective multiplier will be increased by +1. The next time you win that jackpot, its value will be boosted accordingly. Mini can have a max prize multiplier of x10, while Maxi and Minor - x8 and x5.

Free Spins Modes

Fourfold the Gold maintains the vibe of the original slot and adds extra flavour to its core mechanics. Lucky Levels will keep players motivated longer, and the new reward is worth waiting for. On the other hand, the bonus triggering frequency seems low, just like with Twofold the Gold and Threefold the Gold. Adding ante bets and bonus buys might be a good upgrade for the upcoming sequels.

High Limit Studio has kept the RTP rate close to the average. That might be enough on paper, but it feels insufficient with so many non-paying symbols on the grid. Moreover, the very few betting levels don’t leave plenty of options in case of drought periods. In short, Fourfold the Gold is challenging, and fans of the genre will most certainly find plenty of entertainment on the reels.
