You start by choosing your bet level between €0.1 and €100 per round, and you can also choose the number of dynamites between 1 and 3. Keep in mind that you only have 4 options to choose from, so going with 3 dynamites leaves you with only one out. The more dynamites you choose, the higher the bet multiplier prizes become, so you can tailor your risk and reward profile as you see fit. I can start by saying that I love the Game Boy-inspired design of Donny King, and I still remember getting my first Game Boy for Christmas. It might not seem like much in this day and age, but this handheld device was a revolution when I was a kid. As you grow older, you appreciate the simplicity of retro games like this even more, and I definitely had a good time testing Donny King despite mines games not really being my cup of tea.

The jungle beats of the soundtrack lift your mood instantly, while the somewhat grim-looking gorilla is hilarious with his flamboyant pink bow tie and yellow shirt. The options and customizability are limited in this game compared to many other mines games, though, which may be a drawback for some players. You can choose your bet level and 1 to 3 dynamites per round, and that’s it. With only 4 options to choose from, you’ll get blown up quite frequently, which can get annoying after a while.

I played with 1 dynamite per round most of the time, but if you have the stomach for it, going with 3 dynamites significantly increases the bet multipliers. Either way, getting to the bonus round is the main aim, which is easier said than done in Donny King. I often managed to collect 2 lightning bolts, but the crucial third one proved elusive time and time again. At least when the feature finally triggers, you’ll savor it and try to milk it for all it’s worth.

It’s probably a good idea to play Donny King with a strategy to avoid draining your bankroll too quickly. Don’t be afraid to cash out relatively often until you get a hang of it, and save the risk-taking until you’ve collected 2 lightning bolts. The bonus game can be quite lucrative, so chasing that all-important third lightning bolt is worth the potential loss. The 5,000x win cap seems hard to get even remotely close to, but at least solid payouts are theoretically possible.
