Smash & Win Bonus Round

Pros and Cons of Break the Diamond Piggy

Our Verdict

Some players like the idea of unlocking features as you go, but I’m not one of them. In my view, it’s a cheap gimmick designed to make players commit to a certain number of spins. It might feel like an achievement when each feature is unlocked, but it also shackles you to a single bet level. This means you cannot experiment with different betting strategies without being penalized by having your progress revoked. I prefer slot games that fire on all cylinders from the start, but I do understand that some players like the sense of progress too.

To make matters worse, the Piggy Progress feature completely resets when you close and reload the game. This means you need to start all over again and unlock all the features each time you play the game. To me, this borders on being a deal-breaker. The cash prizes you can collect in the base game aren’t all that impressive either, and it’s only too bad that jackpot symbols are reserved for the bonus rounds. If these were unleashed in the base game, it would’ve lifted the experience at least a few notches.

The Piggy Multipliers are a decent feature to unlock, but once again, you will not benefit from these in the base game. This feels like a missed opportunity, as adding multipliers to the collector symbols in the base game would’ve made the coin wins more impactful and desirable. All jackpots are boosted by x2 after the second feature unlock. While it’s a welcome upgrade that’s relatively quick to unlock, the boost feels less like a generous bonus and more like the game cranking these jackpots up to what you’d expect from them in the first place.

The Smash & Win bonus is kind of fun, though, serving as a rapid-fire cash-grab clicker that can also deliver jackpot prizes. However, the Grand Jackpot is only available in the Hold & Win bonus, which is the main event of the Break the Diamond Piggy slot. Overall, Break the Diamond Piggy is a decent mid-range slot game. However, If you hate being locked into a session or find the inability to change stakes without losing progress frustrating, this holiday cruise might feel more like a gilded cage than a luxury escape.
