With Twin Spin, NetEnt has combined the excitement of the classic fruit machine with a high-powered, hypermodern video slot. First launched back in December 2013, this slot remains as popular as ever. Every spin comes with two identical and adjacent reels that are linked together, hence the name Twin Spin. These twin reels can also expand and become triplet, quadruplet or even take over all 5 reels at the same time.
Combine this main feature with the 243 paylines, nice colorful graphics and some nice background beats, and you have a winner. With Twin Spin you get the beauty of simplicity combined with the possibility of high payouts. This is a medium to high variance game, and you can win up to 1080 times your stake on every single spin. No need to travel to Vegas, when you can have this mobile friendly beauty in your pocket.
In early 2018, NetEnt released a Deluxe version of Twin Spin, but it does not seem to take away from the well established popularity of the original game. Simple games are sometimes the most fun, and Twin Spin is also a popular choice when it comes to free spins bonuses and promos. Twin Spin RTP, variance & technical data
Before we take a closer look under the hood of this NetEnt release, let’s reveal some technical data you should be aware of:
- RTP: 96.6 %
- Volatility/Variance: Medium to High
- Layout: 5×3
- Paylines: 243
- Bonus features: Wilds, Twin Reels and Expanding Twin Reels
- Bets: 0.25 to 125
- Max wins (coins): 270 000
Most slots out there have an RTP of around 96%, so Twin Spin is actually a bit higher than the average with an RTP of 96.6%. RTP stands for Return to Player, and it’s a theoretical number telling you how much you can expect the slot to pay out in the long run.
Twin Spin also has a medium to high variance (or volatility as it’s also called), and this means that you can expect some fluctuations on your bankroll while playing. Big wins will come, but you need a cool head while you wait for it, and you also need to adjust your bet level accordingly.
Twin Spin Review
It’s almost become a trend these days, and NetEnt was perhaps the one who started it? We are, or course, talking about the trend of dressing up classic old school one-armed bandits (or fruit machines) in a modern design, and with modern features. It’s the best from both worlds, so to speak, and Twin Spin is a great example of how successful such slots can be with players.
Twin Spin has 5 reels, while the classic fruit machines have 3 reels. Twin Spin also has 243 ways to win, which is a lot more than you would usually find on a one-armed bandit. Still, the game has the feel and the symbols of a classic slot, which makes it a fascinating paradox that perhaps is part of the attraction for many players, even if it’s a subconscious appeal.
The cherry symbol is big and juicy, and you’ll also find classic symbols like bells, bars and lucky 7’s. The diamond symbol has the highest payout, as 5 on a payline wins you 1000 coins. A wild can appear on reel 2, 3, 4 and 5, and increase your winning chances. The main feature of the game is included in every spin, and that is the twin reels feature, which also has the potential of expanding and taking over all the reels.
Twin Spin bonus features
As mentioned before, this is one of those games from NetEnt, like Starburst, where “less is more”. If you’re looking for tons of special features and bonus games, Twin Spin might not be for you. However, if you like to keep things neat and simple, you’ll probably love this game. We will take a closer look at the few important features you’ll find here.
Wilds can land on all reels but the first one, and it acts as a joker substituting other symbols in a way that maximizes your winnings.
Twin Spin Feature
This is the main feature and main attraction of the game, and you don’t have to wait for it to show up either. On every spin two of the reels are tied together, and and they will feature identical symbols. This “twin spin” can appear on any two reels that are lined up next to each other, and where it shows up will vary from time to time.
Even more exciting is that these two twin reels will sometimes expand into 3, 4 or even 5 reels, and this is obviously where you can win the big money on this slot. You never know when the expanding reels will happen, as it’s all governed by the Random Number Generator of the game. This makes for added excitement in every spin.
Twin Spin free spins
There is no free spins feature on this game, and there is actually no possibility of free spins at all. Twin Spin is a game that many casinos like to feature in bonuses and promos, and therefore, the only way to get some free spins on this game is to partake in a casino promo that offers it.
Twin Spin jackpot (max win)
There is no jackpot on this game either, but you can still take home some big wins here. You can win up to 1080 times your stake, and this means a cool £135,000 if you play with the highest stake possible. Not bad for a medium to high volatility slot, not bad at all.
Twin Spin mobile & tablet
Twin Spin is a perfect game for mobile, and it’s optimized for both smartphones and tablets of all kinds. You can play with your Android device, or you can use your iPhone or iPad, if you so prefer. Playing on the go is always fun, and you never need to worry about how to kill some time with this game in your pocket.
How to play
The whole complicated bet level system NetEnt has been operating with for a long time is not really our favorite thing about this developer. However, you can choose between 10 different bet levels here, and each level increases the total stake by 25 coins. You can also set the coin value from 0.01 to 0.50, which naturally affects your total stake also.
If you want to play with a total stake of £1, just choose bet level 2 and coin value 0.02. This gives you 50p x 0.02 which equals a total bet of exactly £1. To complicate things further, the paytable displays the symbol values in coins. The highest paying symbol is the diamond, and this one earns you a 1,000 coins payout when you land 5 on adjacent reels.
How much you win in coins is determined by how much the symbol is worth according to the paytable, multiplied by bet level and the number of times that symbol appears on the each reel. Getting a headache yet? Don’t worry, we shall illustrate and simplify by showing you an example of how this mathematical nightmare works.
Let’s say you play with bet level 2 and land a winner with three Q symbols. According to the paytable, three Q’s are worth 4 coins, and then you multiply this by bet level 2. You thus won 4 x 2 = 8 coins, but how do you know how much money you’ve actually won?
“Simple” enough. You need to multiply the amount of coins you just won by the set coin value. With coin value 0.02, you get 8 coins multiplied by 0.02, which equals £0.16 as your total money win. Since we played with a total stake of £1 in this example, this means that we won exactly 0.16x our total stake.
The tiny little wrench icon down in the left-hand corner takes you to the options menu. Here you can turn on the Quickspin feature (recommended), and allow spinning with the space bar, if you so desire. The ? icon takes you to the game rules, where everything is explained in detail. You can also choose the autoplay option, and get between 10 and 1,000 autospins with different mechanisms and options for when to stop the autoplay feature.

The 200 Spins Twin Spin Experience
Let’s start with a little curiosity first. We set the autospin to 250 spins (as 200 was not available), and our attention became kind of hypnotically fixated at the shifting Twin Reels that manifested different places on each spin. The sound effect put us in a light trance also, so our eyes lost focus for a bit. This created a strange and fascinating effect, kind of like those autostereogram random patterns that turn into holograms when you look at them in a certain “unfocused” way.
We have not noticed this effect with any other slots out there. It certainly added a fascinating new dimension to Twin Spins, even though we hardly think it’s a deliberate “easter egg” NetEnt has created on purpose. Anyway, that’s a side note, as this is really all about our first impression of this game, and a test of our beginner’s luck.
We set the total stake to £1, as this makes it easier to calculate how much we win per stake, and off the cliff we went with 250 spins in the tally. Every third spin, or so, landed us a winner, but mostly we’re talking about smaller wins like 0.2x to 3x. Not unexpected, since this game is on the higher end of medium when it comes to volatility.
We had a decent 20x “big win” after around 100 spins, and we had many triple synced reels that ended up paying little to nothing. Finally our pulse was raised as we managed to land 4 synced reels, but the payout was only 10x our stake. Well, what can we say, at least we saved money on hypnotherapy, and we really hope you have better luck with your first 200+ spins than we had.
Per usual, NetEnt delivers top notch quality in the graphics and sound department, and this game is very visually engaging, to say the least. Twin Spin might look innocent at first glance, but it packs a solid punch. You need patience to win with this volatile game, but it will pay off in the end. It might be too simple for some, but it’s a breath of fresh air when you’re tired of all the fancy special effects and bonus features you’ll find on most other video slots.
If you can handle the ups and downs, this can be a really fun experience, even if it does not come with a full set of usual bonus features. The twin spin feature is what this game is all about, just like Starburst is all about the expanding wilds, and the randomness of the expanding twin spins makes every spin a potential huge winner.
You would think the twin reels would make it a lot easier to win, but it’s actually harder than it looks. Winning up top 1080 times your stake - or £135,000 - on a single spin, is quite possible, but of course, it will not happen all the time. To sum it up, you need a bankroll, betting level and sentiment that can handle the wait between the wins, but whenever those expanding twin reels hit, you’ll know it was all worth it.
- Twin reels feature
- High maximum payout
- Vintage feel in modern package
- Simplistic fun
- To high variance for some
- Few bonus features
