In a way, we are surprised that NetEnt went there before NoLimit City, although we have seen cannibalism from the latter developer which is also more known for controversial and grotesque subject matters. Taco Fury XXXtreme is not your usual cozy Mexicana themed game at all, as the Taco Chef in this release is a green, tattooed zombie. You’ve probably guessed what comes next already, but yes, he does serve brains with eyeballs in his tacos.

This is the most “extreme” thing about Taco Fury XXXtreme, really, as the math model is as far away from the original Starburst XXXtreme as it can possibly get. There is only one feature in this game, so everything revolves around Explosion Wilds dropping down to hit Taco Wilds. This spreads wilds to new positions in 3 different ways, while upgrading the Explosion Wild with a multiplier each time until the sticky wilds respin. The max win is a measly 533x your stake, so this low volatility installment is clearly aimed at casual punters.

You need at least 3 matching symbols on adjacent reels from the uttermost left to the right to win, and there are several different wild symbols in this game. All the different wild symbols have in common that they step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins, and this goes for the regular Taco Wild as well, of course.

There is an extra special row above the 3 middle reels, and this is where the Zombie Chef’s Special Sauce Wild Explosion symbols will appear. You need regular Taco Wilds directly below the Wild Explosion symbols to activate the Wild Explosion feature, and the Wild Explosion symbol will then drop onto the Taco Wild. This triggers 1 of 3 modifiers as follows:

• Orange Explosion Wild - adds a Taco Wild to each adjacent reel, while also increasing its own multiplier by +1.

Review Summary

Taco friday may never be the same again after you’ve seen the filling this Zombie Chef serves up, and the eyeball really says it all. We had a feeling NetEnt was gonna expand on their XXXtreme brand after the recent Milkshake XXXtreme, but there is hardly anything extreme about this game outside of the grotesque visual experience. The 533x potential comes across as a bad joke in that regard, but at least the game’s low volatility is a match.

The game is not without entertainment value though, and zombie fans will probably enjoy what’s on offer here. However, we fail to see a common thread that binds such different titles as Starburst XXXtreme, Milkshake XXXtreme, and Taco Fury XXXtreme together. Perhaps that’s the point we’re missing though; that each release is supposed to be “extremely” different from the next. If that’s the case, NetEnt has succeeded so far, but we would have preferred more extreme math models in every installment, like you get in the original Starburst XXXtreme.
