This reviewer is more fascinated by our collective fascination for zombies, than for zombies as such. It’s almost like someone or something is trying to tell us something, but it’s just not quite clear what it is. Anyway, Rotten takes you into a bleak post-apocalyptic world set in a fairground filled with the undead creatures, and they basically just stand there and stare at you with piercing eyes that shine in the dark.

It’s a menacing display for sure, and the artwork is overall highly impressive for a zombie slot. Hacksaw comes up with a new innovation in this release as well, and the trademarked SwitchSpins feature livens up the base game with symbol transformation respins. The same goes on in both bonus rounds, and the switched symbols never reset in the top-tier Total Takeover round. This can lead to payouts up to 10,000x your stake, and horror fans should definitely give this one a chance.

We were immediately impressed by the gloomy artwork Hacksaw has come up with for this game, and Rotten is pretty much the perfect title as well. The bizarre clown and zombie just standing there in their wobbly ways adds to the highly tense and menacing atmosphere, but don’t expect all that much to happen in the base game most of the time. Hacksaw is known for brutal volatility, and this release is certainly no exception.

You are basically waiting around for the Switch symbol to land, and there are plenty of dead spins to wade through between anything significant. The feature can deliver at times, but that is much more likely to happen in the top-tier Total Takeover bonus round. This is where this bleak creation shines, if we can call it that, at least when things go your way. Close to, or full-screen wins on repeat with high-value symbols, is both fun and potentially lucrative to the tune of 10,000x your stake.
