Pragmatic Play is definitely giving Play’n Go a run for their money with this release, as Monster Superlanche is made of stuff that can threaten their popular ‘Toonz’ series. Play’n Go has a head start though, but fans of cute, wobbly, gel-like monsters will hardly be disappointed by what Pragmatic Play has conjured up in this release. Monster Superlanche is a simple enough game, but the combination of features can be deadly in all stages.

The charming critters drop down on a 6x5 grid inside a cave system, and winning symbols accumulate per tumble as the non-winners explode. Filling reels award multipliers up to x100, and these combine to boost the total win. The multiplier only keeps building in the bonus round, which can lead to payouts up to 5,000x your stake. You can turn on the Ante Bet between base game spins, and it will cost you 25 % more per spin. The benefit is that your bonus round chances are doubled, from 1 in 292 spins to 1 in 146 spins. The top-tier RTP is slightly reduced, however, from 96.03 to 95.98 %.

You win by landing 8 to 30 matching symbols anywhere in view, and they pay from 0.2-1.5x to 10-150x your stake. There are no wild symbols to help you out in this game. The Tumble mechanic is active on each win though, but not the way it usually works.

Instead, all non-winning symbols are removed, and the winning symbols drop to the bottom of the grid. A new batch of symbols drop down to fill the gaps, and the process repeats if you improve the win with more of the same symbol type. Scatter symbols are also stored between tumbles, and you get the total symbols win when no more symbols land to improve it.

Each reel displays a Random Multiplier per spin, and filling a reel with winning symbols at the end of the tumble awards the corresponding multiplier. The multiplier will boost the total win from that round, and if multiple multipliers are achieved they are added together before the boost. The possible multiplier values per reel are as follows: x2-x10, x15, x20, x25, x30, x40, x50, x75, or x100.

You need at least 4 scatters in view in the same tumble sequence to trigger the Bonus Round, and you get 8, 12, or 20 free spins from 4, 5, or 6 scatters, respectively. Finally, non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can take advantage of the Bonus Buy option. This option is not available if the Ante Bet is turned on, however, and it will set you back 100x the stake. Review Summary

Monster Superlanche has everything needed to become a “monster hit”, at least in our view, and the gel-like monsters are as charming as anything we’ve seen before. Although not unheard of, it’s still refreshing to get an “opposite” version of the usual tumble win mechanic, and the satisfying game pace adds to the experience. It’s fun to see the winning symbols accumulate, and even more so if you manage to rack up a decent win multiplier.

This is far more likely to happen in the bonus round, of course, since the multiplier never resets. The multiplier is also highly unpredictable, not least in comparison with the usual progressive win multiplier, which adds tension to each round. It can spike by up to +100 from a single reel after all, and Monster Superlanche can easily sail up as a strong competitor to Play’n Go’s Toonz range. We highly enjoyed our session at least, and the 5,000x potential is solid when you take the very decent 1 in 3,745,318 hit rate into consideration.
