Ice and Fire slot game review
Ice and Fire is a fantasy themed slot that’s the result of Yggdrasil collaborating with Dreamtech Gaming. It’s the first time Yggdrasil is working with this relatively young and fresh developer, and with this game they have done a remake of an already existing game in the Dreamtech catalog. Here we shall find out if this remake was justified, or not.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the game consists of two 5x5 grids lined up side by side, one representing ice and the other fire. Any wilds that land on either reel set is shared with the opposite reel set, and will be cloned into the corresponding positions. Each reel set has 60 ways to win, and you can place bets between 0.12p and £30 per spin across all platforms and devices.
The main attraction of this game is the 2 free spins features, and the one with the unlimited, progressive cascading win multiplier can lead to massive payouts up to £574,170 (which is the game’s max win). The volatility and max win has clearly been increased, but the RTP has been lowered from 97.28 % to 96.64 %. While the original game was aimed at the asian market, this remake is aimed primarily at the western market.
What symbols are there?
You need between 3 and 5 matching symbols on each of the 5x5 grids to make a winning combination here, and the most valuable symbols by far are the ice and fire queens. You also find dragons and animals on the reels, as well as the regular low value royal symbols. Here is what the paytable looks like for Ice and Fire slot:
- Ice Queen - Pays 800 coins for 5 on a payline
- Fire Queen - Pays 800 coins for 5 on a payline
- Ice dragon - Pays 100 coins for 5 on a payline
- Fire dragon - Pays 100 coins for 5 on a payline
- Snow tiger - Pays 50 coins for 5 on a payline
- Wolf - Pays 50 coins for 5 on a payline
- Owl - Pays 40 coins for 5 on a payline
- Horse - Pays 40 coins for 5 on a payline
- Ring - Pays 40 coins for 5 on a payline
- Orb - Pays 40 coins for 5 on a payline
- Royals - Pays 20 coins for 5 on a payline
What are the bonus features?
The book with the dragon’s eye on the cover acts as the wild symbol on this game, and it will step in for any regular symbol to help you form winning combos. Whenever you land one or more wild symbols on one of the reel sets, it will be cloned over in the corresponding position on the opposite reel set. This is called the Shared Wilds bonus feature, and it is certainly helpful when grinding in the base game.
Free spins in Ice and Fire
There is a meter above the reels in the form of 4 empty spaces that can be filled by gemstones. For each cascading win you fill one position, and when the meter is filled you trigger one of the game’s two free spins features.
You then pick either the ice dragon or the fire dragon to reveal how many spins you get (8, 10 or 12), and you will also see how many wilds you’ll benefit from during the bonus round (100 or 150). You can also retrigger the free spins feature by getting 4 more consecutive cascading wins.
The other free spins feature is triggered when you land at least 3 scatter symbols on each of the reel sets at the same time. You get 10 spins when you land 3 dragon egg scatters, and every scatter above 3 gives you 5 extra spins per scatter.
This is called the Multiplier bonus round for a reason, as you will increase the multiplier by 1x for every cascading win. The multiplier does not reset on non-winning spins either, and if you land 3 new scatters on the same spin you’ll retrigger the feature.
What is the jackpot (max win)?
There is no progressive jackpot to be won here, but you can still take home massive payouts from Ice and Fire slot for sure. The max win here is 19,139 times your stake, but to win those kinds of sums you’ll need to be very lucky with the progressive, unlimited multiplier. Of course, even half the max win potential is still very solid, even for a high volatility game.
Where can I play Ice and Fire?

You can certainly also play Ice and Fire on your mobile phone and tablet, and Yggdrasil always prioritizes the handheld platforms when they make new games. This means that you have the freedom to chase the big wins on your Android, iPhone and iPad, wherever you may be.
Ice and Fire is a nice remake of Dreamtech’s asian style game, and Yggdrasil’s version has been beefed up with a much higher volatility and potential. This opens the game up for more serious gamblers, but beware that the RTP has been lowered significantly from the medium variance original game. It’s still above average though, so basically players now have two mathematically different (yet very similar games) to choose from.
- Shared wilds between the reel sets
- 2 free spins features
- High volatility and 19,139x potential
- Max bet is “only” £30
