Lightning Clovers is a hybrid sequel to a couple of hot series powered by the industry-renowned provider Playson. In its distinguished style, the provider offers another electrifying journey in its amazing slot-verse, with exciting mechanics and a potential for massive wins. The game was officially introduced in October 2024!

Playson is a power-developer and already has nearly 200 online slots in its repertoire, which is impressive given the fact that the company was founded in 2012. At the same time, Lightning Clovers is a natural sequel to the Supercharged Clovers: Hold and Win, which was released in July. Although the mechanics and the payout system are different, the theme and audio-visual appearance are identical. That’s why, I consider the title a hybrid sequel to more than one series!

Lightning Clovers comes with a wide board in the middle of the screen, multipliers, fixed jackpots, Mystery and other special symbols. Bonus Buy is part of the script as well as a 3-tier speed modifier, an infinite Autoplay, and sound settings. Playon develops only mobile-optimized slots, and this one makes no exception being compatible with both Android and iOS systems.

Lightning Clovers lacks paylines and regular symbols, as it pays only through the bonus minigame. The potential remains unchanged given the Hit the Bonus installments but is lower compared with .Supercharged Clovers. Then again, volatility there is higher, so balance can be found.

Lightning Clovers is all about the Bonus Game as all symbols activate then! You can either activate or buy the feature and enjoy various collect boosters, jackpots, and multipliers. Keep in mind that the frequency is not the highest, so applying a bankroll management strategy would be wise!

Bonus Game & Ultra Bonus Game

As I already mentioned, the Lightning Clovers bonus minigame is a standard Hold & Win with a few special symbols. In order to trigger it, you'll need to land 3 symbols of any kind, identical or mixed, on the middle row. They will lock on their positions, and 3 respins will be granted. Each new symbol will also lock and reset the counter.

The bonus will end if you run out of respins or if the whole grid is fully covered. In both cases, all symbols will be evaluated, summed, and paid out. If you cover all 15 positions, the Grand Jackpot will be added to the total payout.

Ultra Bonus can be randomly started on any spin with one or two Bonus symbols on the middle row. They contribute to the Pot on the grid's left side, although the animation is for entertainment purposes only. Ultra Bonus Game starts with guaranteed multipliers and provides more multipliers during the respins.

Sticky Bonus Symbols

Bonus symbols carry payouts of 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x the bet, while the Sticky Bonus symbols have values of 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, or 9x the stake. Sticky Bonus Clovers may appear randomly during the base game and lock on their positions until the start of the bonus minigame. Keep in mind that they are saved per bet level!

Bonus Game Jackpots

Jackpot Clovers may land during the base game, Bonus Game, and Ultra Bonus Game. They can carry Mini, Minor, or Major values as per the numbers displayed below. More than one jackpot can be won per bonus minigame, but the Grand Jackpot will be added only if you fill out the grid entirely!

Mystery Symbols

Mystery Symbols can transform into Bonus, Jackpot, or Boost symbols. At the same time, Mystery Jackpot Symbols can turn into Mini, Minor, or Major only. Both types of special symbols are evaluated one by one at the end of the Bonus Game or Ultra Bonus Game. Their values are not collected by the Boost Symbols.

Multipliers Feature

The Multipliers feature is random and may trigger on any Bonus or Ultra Bonus respin. It adds multipliers to random cells, and if the feature hits the same place, the respective multiplier will be increased. Total multipliers are applied to the Bonus or Jackpot symbols, if any, in the respective cells at the end of the minigame.

Boost Feature

Boost Symbol collects all Bonus and Jackpot values, as well as other Boost symbols, if any, on the reels. In case there are multipliers on some of the cells, they are first activated and only after that, the values will be collected. The Boost symbols do not affect the Mystery or Mystery Jackpot symbols.

Buy Feature is subject to restrictions in some countries, so depending on your residence, it might not be active. Plasyon has proven to be capable of designing appealing games with solid mathematics and adrenaline-pumping features. Well, this title, in particular, is not the best example since the Hold & Win scripts feel slightly overused already. Anyway, graphics, sound effects, and animations are up to par!

Our Verdict

Lightning Clovers is not a bad game if you are looking for a non-standard slot experience. Playson obviously exploits a new ground here with mechanics that become more and more sophisticated. It's the first installment of the new series with a 3x5 grid, although that might be seen as a comeback from the 5x5 in 25 Cookies.

All sequels, including Piggy Power and 25 Cookies, offer the same special symbols and jackpots, so diversity in that direction will be appreciated. I see "Hit The Bonus" as mechanics inspired by "Hold The Jackpots" powered by Wazdan. Seasoned gamblers are familiar with the provider's masterpieces 9 Coins, 12 Coins, 20 Coins, etc.

Wazdan has created a massive library of similar machines with adjustable volatility, incredibly high betting features, and simple gameplay. There are Cash Infinity and Mystery Multiplier variants with mixed mechanics and slight changes in the feature sets. Overall, this series is much more sophisticated than what we are currently seeing by Playson.

Even so, Lightning Clovers is an exciting adventure and might be quite mesmerizing for new beginners who still haven't developed a specific taste for modern slots.
