Kong Wonder Wilds is another addition to Inspired Gaming’s portfolio, following in the footsteps of their 2022 release, Call of the Wild. That game wasn’t exactly a hit with everyone – my colleague reviewed it at the time and wasn’t really a fan of it. Nonetheless, up to date it continues to attract numerous players across the world, and the developer behind it decided to give that formula another spin. Inspired Gaming has retained the core idea but added new features to spice things up, and we are to find out what’s new and whether the Kong Wonder Wilds slot will be able to surpass its older sibling. Read on.

Like its predecessor, this one takes us to a massive 6-reel, 5-row layout, where there are 25 fixed ways for the symbols to pay across. The symbols that populate the reels, in a similar way, are classic card ranks and a set of animals. This time, however, from a different part of the globe. We switch from American canyons to the tropics in the Kong Wonder Wilds online slot, and wolves, pumas, bears, and other species typical to the region from the previous game are replaced with gorillas, armadillos, parrots, and so on.

The symbols pay from left to right, from 3-of-a-kind and more. For 6-of-a-kind combinations, you can expect payouts from 3x to 6x your bet. That doesn’t seem too big, but keep in mind all symbols can appear stacked on the reels, so there’s potential.

Powered by a medium-volatile math model, Kong Wonder Wilds comes with two RTP settings in mind. None are overly impressive, however. Depending on where you play, you can encounter either a 94% or a 92.5% value. No matter the payback, the max win is solid at 2,500x the bet.

At the core of the gameplay remained the Wild Win and Spin feature, though, it’s now infused with two additional special wild types to spice things up. Aside from that, players will also benefit from random mystery symbols as well as the useful gamble function.

Reel Modifier

At random, on any base spin, the reel modifier may kick in and deliver a bunch of Mystery Symbols to the reels. The number is entirely random. At the end of the spin, these will transform into the same, randomly selected symbol, even Wild.

Wild Symbols

The Kong Wonder Wilds slot incorporates three different types of Wild symbols. All substitute for any other paying symbols in winning combos.

• Kong Wild - appears on all reels at any stage.
• X Power Wild - appears on reels 1, 2, 5, and 6 in the base game and the collector phase of the bonus with the enabled X Power modifier.
• Spin Power Wild - appears on reels 1, 2, 5, and 6 in the base game and the collector phase of the bonus with the enabled Spin Power modifier.

When 6 or more Wild symbols land simultaneously anywhere in view on any base game spin, they activate the Wild Win and Spin bonus game. If an X Power Wild is among the triggering symbols, the feature will have the line multipliers modifier. If a Spin Power Wild was involved, the bonus will have extra Wild Win Spins active.

Wild Win and Spin

The feature consists of two distinct stages, the collect phase and the actual free spins phase. Once activated, players receive 3 respins to start with, which are played on special reels where only Wild symbols and blanks are available. The triggering Wilds lock in place, and any new Wild that appears also becomes sticky and remains in position until the very end of the bonus. Upon the trigger, any X Power Wild symbols convert to 2x Wild Multiplier symbols. Any Spin Power Wild symbols add +1 extra spin to the total number of Wild Win and Spin free spins.

In case the X Power is active, new Wild symbols with multipliers of either 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x can land. If Spin Power is active, new extra spin Wilds can appear.

The objective is to collect as many Sticky Wilds as possible before the actual round of Kong Wonder Wilds free spins begins. When a new Wild appears, the respins tally is reset. When the player runs out of respins, the collector stage ends.

All Wild symbols remain locked after the collection phase, and players proceed to Wild Win Spins. During this stage, paying symbols are returned to the reels, and each spin is guaranteed to be a winning one.

Gamble

The Gamble feature in Kong Wonder Wilds allows players to risk their winnings for a chance to increase them or win a bonus entry. It can be adjusted to be always on, trigger at wins of 5x or greater only, or turned off completely. Once activated, players are presented with two different wheels:

• The left wheel lets players gamble for 1.5x, 2x, or 3x their winnings.
• The right wheel offers a chance to win a bonus entry.

Players can adjust the gamble risk using "+" and "-" arrows, which modify the win/loss segments on the wheel. Landing on a green segment awards the prize, while a red segment results in losing the winnings

Theme & Graphics

Kong Wonder Wilds takes players deep into a lush jungle filled with vibrant wildlife, featuring gorillas, snakes, and exotic creatures. The visuals are well-crafted, with bright colors and sharp symbols, though they don’t particularly stand out compared to other jungle-themed slots. Overall, it’s a fairly standard presentation for the theme. It looks good, but it doesn’t break any new ground.

Our Verdict

Well, in a nutshell, Kong Wonder Wilds is decent. Not exactly a must-play, but a solid slot. The features are fun and can be extremely rewarding, especially the Wild Win and Spin bonus, which can deliver some serious wins when multipliers and extra guaranteed win spins come into play. The random Mystery Symbols are another nice touch, keeping the base game engaging with the potential for unexpected payouts.

That said, the below-average RTP values left much to be desired, and while the visuals are nice, they don’t do much to set the game apart from other jungle-themed slots. For fans of the genre, there’s nothing to complain about though. Overall, Kong Wonder Wilds is a good slot for those who enjoy feature-packed gameplay with a familiar jungle setting. It’s not groundbreaking, but there’s enough to find to get entertained about.
