King Fu Frog Animals Review

King Fu Frog Animals is one of four games Zitro launched under the King Fu Frog name, alongside Food, Garden and King Ku Frog Spirits. All four use the same frog features, while Animals fills the regular reels with a dragon, tiger, panda, koi and other animal symbols. The game starts on five reels with three rows, and wins run from left to right on adjacent reels.

The Wild can help with regular combinations, although it only appears on the middle three reels. It doesn't replace any of the special frog symbols. Those are much more important here, as they can activate the Multiplier, Double or Extra Spin Bonus Link. The three aren't locked into separate bonus rounds either. They can be combined, and there are up to 26 Bonus Link combinations.

The Bonus Link starts with three spins, and any new prize symbol that lands stays on the reels. It also takes you back to three spins. From there, things depend on which frogs you've triggered. You might have multiplier positions on the grid, another set of reels to play on, or extra spins waiting once the first three are used up. There's also a larger frog that can boost these features, including a 5x multiplier frame or a 5x5 second grid.

The online version I played shows an RTP of 95.18%. This is worth pointing out because the 98.22% figure shown on some listings doesn't match the RTP inside the game itself. King Fu Frog Animals also has Mini and Minor prizes, plus progressive Mega and Grand Mega jackpots reached through a Jackpot Wheel.

There's quite a lot happening once the frogs get involved, but the base game itself isn't difficult to follow. Most spins still look and play like a fairly traditional animal slot. It's the Bonus Link combinations that make this one different, and I found there was considerably more to learn there than the first few spins suggested.

King Fu Frog Animals Features

Most of the features lead back to Bonus Link, but you won't always get the same version of it. Three frogs can change what happens during the bonus, and more than one can be active at the same time. The Big Yellow Frog takes this further by boosting whichever features have been triggered.

Bonus Link

Bonus Link starts with three spins. Prize symbols that land stay locked in place, and each new one resets the counter to three. Their values can range from 10x to 2,000x the total credits wagered.

The interesting part is that Bonus Link isn't one fixed bonus. The frogs can trigger different features or combine them, with up to 26 possible combinations.

Multiplier

The Green Frog brings multipliers into the Bonus Link. Three positions are picked for multiplier frames worth 2x, 3x and 4x. Land a prize symbol on one of those positions and its value gets the multiplier shown there.

This is one feature where the position of a symbol matters as much as the number printed on it. A prize landing one space away from a multiplier box won't get the same treatment.

Double

The Orange Frog adds a second 3x5 reel set. Both have their own three-spin counter, so you're effectively playing two Bonus Links at the same time.

I found this one a little more unusual than the multiplier feature. Instead of simply adding something to the original grid, Double gives you another 15 positions to fill.

Extra Spin

The Yellow Frog gives you more time in the bonus. Once the first three spins are finished, you get another three to keep playing. Any new prize symbols that appear stay on the grid as usual.

Big Yellow Frog

The larger Yellow Frog doesn't just give you another standalone bonus. It boosts the frog features already in play and can activate between one and three of them.

Multiplier gets an additional 5x position. Double becomes much bigger, with the upper reel set expanding from 3x5 to 5x5. Extra Spin gets four additional spins instead of three.

Since the frogs can work together, these boosted versions can also appear as part of a combined Bonus Link rather than one at a time.

Jackpots

Mini and Minor prizes can be collected during the Bonus Jackpot. Mega and Grand Mega work differently. A special Jackpot symbol sends you to a wheel, where one of those two progressive jackpots is awarded.

There is no fixed top value for Mega or Grand Mega, as both continue to grow progressively.

Buy Bonus

King Fu Frog Animals also lets you skip the wait for some Bonus Link rounds through Buy Bonus. The price isn't the same for every option and changes with the current wager, so it's worth checking what you're buying rather than treating them as one fixed-cost feature.

Theme & Graphics

King Fu Frog Animals sticks to an Asian-inspired theme. The frogs are hard to miss, while the reels themselves are filled with animals and card symbols. The regular symbols stay close to the Animals name. There's a dragon, tiger, panda and koi, together with the lower-paying card symbols.

The frogs are much easier to notice than anything else on the screen, which makes sense once you know how important they are to the bonuses. Each one has its own colour, and the larger Yellow Frog is hard to miss when it appears. I didn't need long to learn which frog was connected to which feature.

The base game itself looks fairly traditional. Things change more once Bonus Link starts. Prize symbols replace the usual reel symbols, multiplier positions can appear on the grid and Double can put a second reel set on the screen. The boosted version can make that upper grid even larger.

The frogs have their own short animations, especially when they trigger or improve a bonus. The game gets louder there too. During normal spins, I found both the music and animations much less noticeable.

Pros And Cons Of King Fu Frog Animals Slot

King Fu Frog Animals has more going on in its bonus than you might expect from the 5x3 base game. I liked that the three frogs don't always lead to the same round, and getting two features together can change the Bonus Link quite a bit. The RTP is one of the weaker points.

Our Verdict

King Fu Frog Animals looked fairly ordinary to me during the first few spins. Five reels, animal symbols and a Wild on the middle reels aren't exactly unusual. The frogs are what change that. Once I got into the Bonus Link, there was much more to watch than I expected from the base game.

I particularly liked the fact that triggering one frog doesn't always mean you're getting one isolated feature. Multiplier is easy enough on its own, and Extra Spin is even simpler. Double was more interesting for me because suddenly there's another grid to watch. Get the Big Yellow Frog involved and things can change again. The 5x multiplier position is useful, but I'd rather see the boosted Double with its larger 5x5 upper grid.

Having up to 26 Bonus Link combinations also helps with repetition. I've played plenty of hold-and-win slots where you've more or less seen the entire bonus after triggering it once. That's not quite the case here. You can come back with another frog or a different combination and get a noticeably different setup.

There are four King Fu Frog games from Zitro, so Animals isn't your only option. Food, Garden and Spirits use the same main frog features with different symbols and themes. I wouldn't expect a completely new game from each one, but they make obvious alternatives if you like the Bonus Link system and want to try another version.

The number I like less is the 95.18% RTP shown in the online game. That's below what I normally like to see, and the progressive jackpots don't make me forget about it.

For me, this one is mostly about how many versions of the same bonus Zitro has managed to fit into one slot. I wouldn't spend much time here just for the regular spins. I'd come back to see which frogs turn up together and what sort of Bonus Link they produce.
