Creative City is a rising star in the iGaming world, and despite only having 5 slots to their name thus far, Gummy Rush is their second sweets-themed release. Granted, their first venture into the candy world trope was the more narrowly focused Chocolate Factory. This time, you’re joining a regal gummy bear in a sugary quest for riches clearly inspired by Sugar Rush.

You start by choosing your preferred bet level, ranging from €0.10 to €1,000 per spin. The Gummy Rush slot plays out on a 6x5 grid with a Pay Anywhere win system, also called Scatter Pay. You win by landing 8 to 14+ matching symbols anywhere in view, and the symbols consist of gummy bears and other candy items. The symbols pay 0.2x to 0.8x for 8 in view, while 14+ in view awards between 1.3x and 15x your stake. The Wild symbol substitutes for any pay symbol to help complete or improve wins.

Winning symbols are removed and replaced via the Cascading mechanic, and this adds x2 multipliers to all winning positions. These multipliers double per subsequent win they are part of in the same cascading sequence, up to a maximum of x128. Winning symbols fill the Progress Wheel on the left, with enough collected winning symbols unlocking the bonus round. If you supercharge the meter with 50+ winning symbols, you get the super bonus round.

Both bonus rounds have in common that the position multipliers from the triggering spin are carried over and that these never reset for the duration of the bonus round. The progress meter delivers extra free spins and wilds as well as multiplier doubling if supercharged. Cascading Wins & Doubling Position Multipliers

Winning symbols are removed from the grid, and this adds an x2 multiplier to all winning positions before a new batch of symbols drops down to fill the gaps. The multipliers in existing positions are doubled for each subsequent cascading win they are part of in the same round, and all involved multipliers are added together before boosting each cascading win. The position multipliers reset between rounds in the base game, and they cannot go higher than x128 per position.

Progress Wheel

The progress wheel seen on the left is filled by +1 progress for each winning symbol, or +2 per winning symbol if a wild symbol is involved in the win (including the wild). The regular bonus round triggers when you fill the wheel with 30-49 winning symbols, while the super bonus round triggers if you supercharge the wheel with 50+ winning symbols collected.

The progress wheel resets between base game rounds, so you must collect the stated amounts in the same cascading sequence to trigger a bonus round. The meter is still active and collecting winning symbols in the bonus rounds, allowing you to win extra free spins or an additional wild symbol added to the grid. If you supercharge the meter during the bonus round, all present position multipliers are doubled.

Bonus Round

As mentioned, the bonus round triggers when you charge the progress wheel with at least 30 winning symbols collected in the same cascading sequence. You get 10 free spins with the current position multiplier progress carried over into the bonus round. The multiplier positions do not reset per free spin.

Instead, they double, as usual, but without resetting for the duration of the bonus round. Charging the progress wheel adds +1 free spin and +1 wild symbol randomly added to the grid. Supercharge it, and the grid is cleared, all multipliers are doubled, and you get a new drop of symbols.

Super Bonus Round

You get 10 super free spins when this feature triggers, and the current position multipliers are carried over. However, before the first spin, the grid is cleared, and all position multipliers are doubled. The position multipliers do not reset for as long as the super bonus round lasts. You get +1 free spin and a randomly placed wild symbol each time you charge the progress wheel. Supercharge the wheel to clear the grid and double all present position multipliers.

Theme & Graphics

Gummy Rush takes you into a cartoonish candy world with lush greenery and puffy clouds dotting the otherwise blue sky. This saccharine kingdom is ruled by a red gummy bear, complete with a golden king’s crown on its shiny head. The theme comes across as part fairy tale and part sugary fever dream, with its rolling candy hill backdrop and jelly-like goodies in the foreground. The reels are filled with different candy items too, of course, and the soundtrack is a pleasantly relaxed melody that lulls you into this world like a sweet dream.

Taking the free Gummy Rush demo for a spin or ten is a good idea if you want to quickly get to know the ins and outs of this game. There are plenty of features to explore, after all, and you can make good use of the bonus and feature buy menu to sample everything this release offers. You will also get a sense of how often the bonus round and super bonus round trigger organically, at least if you play for a while. Our Verdict

While the source of inspiration is obvious for any veteran player, Creative City has done a lot of things right with this release. Sure, the core mechanics are borrowed from Sugar Rush, but this new and upcoming studio has been wise enough to add multiple extra goodies to the already sugary mix. The result is a charming and competent candy world slot game, although the soundtrack is a tad too slow and lullaby-ish for my taste. A more lighthearted and upbeat melody would’ve served the theme better.

The pay anywhere base game never gets boring thanks to the multiplier-fueled, cascading wins action, with position multipliers doubling per consecutive win they partake in. That’s the explosive combo Pragmatic Play came up with in Sugar Rush, and that many providers have copied ever since. The progress wheel is a clever addition, as it makes you feel how close you are to triggering a bonus round each time you land a few consecutive cascades. This keeps the engagement high, not least if you stand a chance to trigger the super bonus.

I only wish Creative City would’ve been more transparent about stats like the hit frequency of both bonus rounds, as well as the max win hit rate, and, not least, the hit rate for the different feature buy options. It’s less motivating to pay twice your regular bet size for a vague promise of a higher bonus round hit rate, not least when the original hit rate isn’t even disclosed. The regular bonus round came along regularly in my test session, though, while the super bonus was harder to trigger. Still, knowing the actual stats would’ve been nice.

The Degen Spins feature is a neat innovation, but hardly for everyone. If you like high-stakes gambling with amped-up super bonus rounds coming along like pearls on a string, then this feature is like manna from heaven for you. I still think the win cap should’ve remained the same in all modes, though, and preferably 10,000x, not 5,000x. Anyway, it’s far from a deal-breaker, and Gummy Rush is a solid contender in the candy world genre, not least for players who like plenty of feature buy options.
