Play'n Go’s Dragonfate's Favor opens with the scene of a lofty flight from the dragon’s lair to an idyllic Viking village, where the sturdy 6x4 grid is located. The cartoon-style visuals suit the theme well, with fully grown dragons and their adorable hatchlings populating the reels. The How to Train Your Dragon vibe is going strong, but there are no human characters to be found in Dragonfate's Favor.

You can play with bet levels ranging from €0.1 to €100 per spin, catering to both penny punters and high rollers. You win by landing matching symbols anywhere across 3+ adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel towards the right. This feature goes on until Goldar disappears after hitting the leftmost reel.

When the bonus round triggers, you can choose between 3 options, one of which includes walking multiplier hatchling wilds of up to x3. The more free spins you choose the less walking wild action you get, and vice versa, and there is no Ante Bet or Bonus Buy feature in Dragonfate's Favor slot. This is a medium volatile game (6 out of 10) with a top-tier RTP of 96.2 %, but beware of RTP ranges. The 30,000x max win comes with a 1 in 1 billion spins hit rate.

Goldar moves one reel towards the left per respin, meaning up to 5 respins are possible at the most. Any hatchling wilds that land become walking wilds too, either following behind Goldar or leading the way in front of him. Hatchling wilds land in size 1x1, and the respins feature is over when Goldar walks off the leftmost reel.

Dragonfate's Favor Free Spins

The Bonus Round Choice Screen triggers when you land 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatter symbols in view on the same base game spin, awarding 5x, 10x, 25x, or 100x your stake upfront, respectively. You will then get to choose between 3 different bonus rounds, as follows:

The Alpha Blessing Bonus awards 8, 12, 16, or 20 free spins from the triggering scatters, and you win +6, +9, +12, or +15 extra free spins by landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 scatters on the same free spin during the feature, respectively. Theme & Graphics

Fans of the How To Train Your Dragon franchise will feel right at home in the world of Dragonfate's Favor. The cartoonish visuals and charming hatchlings seem inspired by this popular trilogy, and the carved wooden frame and the shield leaning on it hint at a Viking setting. So do the towering mountains in the backdrop, with a soundtrack that’s both lighthearted and adventurous setting the tone.

Pros and Cons of Dragonfate's Favor

Our Verdict

As a huge fan of the How to Train Your Dragon movies, I prefer Dragonfate's Favor over the original Raging Rex 2. However, in general, I’m no fan of reskin jobs, which this release undeniably is. Play’n Go has come up with a pretty neat intro for this game, though, with a dragon soaring through the sky as we are introduced to the charming Viking village that makes up the backdrop of this game.

It’s almost like you would’ve preferred that movie to continue instead of playing the slot game, and the lack of human characters is a bit of a missed opportunity in my view. The source of inspiration would’ve been even more obvious with a Hiccup lookalike on the reels, perhaps, but it would’ve also been a more engaging experience. On a side note, I’m not sure if I like that the spin button disappears as the reels spin, but the pace is decent with the turbo switched on.

The base game gets a bit monotone after a while, despite okay top-up wins sprinkled in here and there. The walking wild feature seldom fires on all cylinders and it’s just not engaging enough to carry the base game, at least in my humble opinion. Most of the time you get Goldar on reels 2 or 3, walking in a few decent wins. To truly cash in, you need him on reel 5 with plenty of hatchlings to boot. This rarely happens, as I said, but it’s fun when it does.

The 30,000x win cap soars way above what’s offered in most Play’n Go slots, but the 1 in 1 billion spins hit frequency makes it an unlikely prospect. It would’ve been a good idea to also disclose the hit rate of smaller wins, like 10,000x and 20,000x, but that’s just not the case. As for the bonus rounds, I usually go with The Dragon’s Gift Bonus, as I’m willing to sacrifice some free spins to get plenty of walking wild action.
