Chicken+ is dripping with retro arcade nostalgia, featuring a charming 8-bit theme and a ditto chiptune soundtrack. The pixel art cars will remind you of the very first Grand Theft Auto game, not least when the tank shows up to off your chicken with a blast. In this game, some cars actually stop instead of always running you over, but there are many more ways for your chicken to meet its demise than becoming roadkill. Your feathered hero bravely leaps from one manhole cover to the next, and you should expect the unexpected in this game.

The road-crossing game genre has exploded on social media and in the streaming communities recently, and Pragmatic Play naturally wants their piece of the action. Being the seasoned developer that they are, they clearly understood that they needed to come up with something a bit unique. Chicken+ made a good first impression with its charming, retro 8-bit visuals, something that fits this type of game like a glove. The pixelated nostalgia this game evokes already puts it ahead of many competing games out there.

What truly elevates the experience, however, is the sheer variety of ways your feathered protagonist can meet its maker. Becoming roadkill is the least of your worries in this game, and Pragmatic Play clearly had a blast coming up with all these different ways to end your round. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, like being blasted by a tank, hit by an anvil, or turned into Kentucky Fried Chicken, a freaking airplane shows up on the highway like it’s no big deal, sucking your doomed chicken into its jet engine.

Chicken+ is a testament to why putting in that little extra effort often goes a long way. I’m usually not a huge fan of these chicken-cross-the-road experiences, but I certainly enjoyed my session with this release. I can’t remember ever being this entertained by losing, which is exactly what the crash game genre needs. In these types of games, going for larger wins means you’ll lose the majority of your rounds, which can be discouraging. Pragmatic Play has managed to take the edge off that notion with Chicken+.

Another thing is the math model, which is where the "+" in the title really earns its keep. With a max win of a whopping 3,138,009x your stake, daredevils should have their hands full going for that 0.000031% final step success rate. The volatility of the hardest level is off the charts, so we recommend starting in easy mode and working your way up. The combination of nostalgic charm and dark humor makes Chicken+ a solid entry into this genre, and it’s a godsend for streamers and viral content seekers.
