Our Verdict

The Power Combo series spans across multiple Games Global partner studios, and it’s safe to say that the quality of each release varies. Bison Prime Power Combo is a far cry from JustForTheWin’s far more solid Queens of Ra Power Combo, for example, and there is not all that much to be excited about this time. The North American prairie theme offers nothing most veteran players haven’t seen hundreds of times before, and in my view, the game would’ve been better served with a larger grid.

Granted, you do get a good view of the majestic backdrop, which some players may appreciate. I did enjoy the high-energy soundtrack, though, and it will get you pumped and ready for action. The problem is, there isn’t all that much action to be found in the Bison Prime Power Combo slot. Sure, you get to collect some money prizes and occasional jackpots, but it rarely amounts to anything pulse-raising. The base game is mostly a tedious grind, and with no ante bet or bonus buy features, you have to power through it until the bonus round triggers.

I’m not a huge fan of the whole concept of needing to trigger the bonus round in a specific way to avoid going in half-cocked. If I’m gonna suffer through a boring base game, I want the bonus round to fire on all cylinders when it finally triggers. That rarely happens in Bison Prime Power Combo, and it’s equally frustrating each time you get only one upgrade. Sure, there is a possibility of activating upgrades during the feature, but don’t bank on it happening all that often.

It’s also a bit lame that the multiplier upgrade only applies to regular line wins, and not the collected cash prizes and jackpots. After all, these prize symbols take up prime ‘reel estate’ in all stages of the game, making line wins more unlikely. The Sticky upgrade combined with the Extra upgrade is your best bet for larger wins, but overall, Bison Prime Power Combo comes across as a mediocre shelf-filler release. It’s a run-of-the-mill effort most providers can churn out with one hand tied behind their backs, and you don’t get a sense that much thought went into it.
