Amidst all their other Area Link releases, Area Vegas has decided to release a sequel to Area Link Bank Blast called Area Link Bank Boss. This means a reunion with the charming piggy bank characters sitting on a pile of gold coins, as usual. However, this time you get to meet their boss, a golden piggy bank character clearly inspired by Mr. Monopoly. Other than the feature this new bank boss brings to the table, this follow-up game is highly similar to the first one.

However, before we get to the heart of this thing, let’s cover the basics. Area Link Bank Boss plays out on a 5x3 grid with 20 paylines. You win by landing matching symbols across these paylines, starting from the leftmost reel. The diamond symbol is the highest-paying regular pay symbol in the game, followed by gold bars, cash, coin stacks, and a green-jeweled ring. These premium symbols pay 2x to 5x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, while the royal symbols all pay 1x your stake for the same.

The dollar sign Wild symbol substitutes for any pay symbol to help complete or improve wins and can appear on any reel. Area Link Bank Boss is all about money and excess, displaying a literal mountain of gold coins in the background. Perched atop this shimmering sea of gold coins are the piggy bank characters, collecting their coins from the grid with a satisfied grunt. The golden boss piggy bank looks like Mr. Monopoly, complete with a mustache, monocle, and top hat. The jackpots are prominently displayed on the left, right below the game logo. The piggy banks grow in size the more coins they collect, indicating that you’re closing in on triggering the bonus round.

Our Verdict

Area Vegas keeps churning out Area Link slots with all sorts of themes, and Area Link Bank Boss follows in the footsteps of last year’s Area Link Bank Blast. The presentation is on the simpler side, as usual, and the game comes across as rather static and somewhat lacking in personality. It helps a bit that the piggy bank characters come alive when they collect coins, but mostly, they simply stand there silently, staring at you with eyes begging you to get going and start spinning those reels already.

The turbo spin option is “hidden” in the autoplay menu, which seems a tad unnecessary. I prefer the turbo option to be available next to the spin button or at least prominently displayed on the game interface. Double-clicking on the piggy bank characters makes them do a little number while releasing a grunt, which is a neat little Easter egg you can play with. The base game is about as barebones as it gets, but you have wild symbols that may help you land some okay top-up wins here and there.

Area Link Bank Boss is all about growing those piggy banks until they burst, and hopefully as many of them as possible on the same spin. You get one additional piggy bank in this game compared to the predecessor, which is the golden Bank Boss piggy bank. This provides an additional entry into the bonus round, with a random number of upgrades assigned. In theory, this should make the bonus round easier to trigger, but it’s hard to tell since Area Vegas does not disclose the bonus round hit frequency for their games.

With no ante bet or bonus buy options, you are at the mercy of the game’s undisclosed hit rate. That being said, in my experience, the bonus round does trigger fairly regularly. However, as is always my issue with these types of games, you seldom get the fully upgraded bonus round experience. If triggering different variations of the bonus round is your thing, Area Link Bank Boss may be worth considering. It’s better than the predecessor by a slim margin, but it’s almost identical except for the added Bank Boss piggy bank.
