Whacked! is an unusually simple game from the always controversial NoLimit City, and it plays out with what looks like an abandoned gas station in the backdrop. This is supposedly the location where these mafiosos get rid of snitches and other unwanted characters, and the main guy is a dead ringer for Don Vito Corleone from The Godfather. All of the characters look spooky enough, and the visuals are painted with a realistic cartoon style that fits the old school Italian-American gangster theme well.

You get Avalanche wins and xWays symbols in the base game, and once in a while you get enough consecutive wins to fully load the revolver seen below the grid. This is how you take out the bad guys, and it turns up to 6 of them wild. The bonus round is a hold and win style game, and you will accumulate bet multiplier prizes below each reel. It comes with several interesting xRevolver modifiers, and you’ll probably need the Russian Roulette modifier to close in on the 11,912x potential.

The 5 mafioso character premium symbols pay between 1 and 2 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and Wild symbols step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve line wins. All winning symbols are removed from the grid via the Avalanche mechanic, and the gaps are then filled by new and/or existing symbols dropping down from above. This process repeats for as long as you keep winning.

You can land xWays symbols as well, and they expand to contain 2 to 4 symbols each. The xWays symbols pay the same as regular pay symbols, and they remain in play for the duration of each avalanche sequence.

The Lock 'N' Load feature triggers when you’ve managed to fill the revolver cylinder below the grid with 6 bullets. Each consecutive win loads a set of bullets into the cylinder, and when fully loaded the Lock ’N’ Load feature fires the revolver at random character symbols. The affected symbols turn Wild, and unused bullets are saved for later if there are less than 5 character symbols in view.

The Whacked Spins Bonus Round triggers when 3 scatters appear in the same avalanche sequence, or on the very same spin. It’s a hold and win style feature where each reel starts with a value of 1x your stake below the grid. You start with 3 spins, and the tally resets each time you land a non-blank symbol. Coins land with cash prize values, and these are accumulated below each respective reel as you play.

All the bet multipliers below each reel are added together when you run out of respins, and the sum total is paid as the feature ends. You can also land the xRevolver cylinder, and this awards one of the following modifiers:

• Coins - awards a regular cash prize coin.
• xWays - expands to give you 3 coins worth between 1x and 20x your stake.
• xNudge - nudges to award a multiplier that increases per nudge, and it can go up to x3 at best. The multiplier boosts the total value below the relevant reel.
• Russian Roulette - resets the spin tally to 3 one time, but the tally cannot reset again after that. At the end of the feature the reel bet multipliers are multiplied together instead of being added together.

Review Summary

It’s actually refreshing to play a NoLimit City release where the base game isn’t packed with so much slashing and dicing of the reels that you have no idea what’s actually happening until your winnings are summed up. The Avalanche feature can provide random wilds when the bullet collection system works in your favor, and other than that you get the xWays symbols. The mafioso theme is nicely done, and you get plenty of action commentary sprinkled throughout the gameplay.

The main guy is clearly inspired by Marlon Brando’s Godfather, something the epic underbite bulldog jaw is a tall-tale sign of. The bonus round is not the most exciting thing we’ve seen from this developer though, and it can be hard to land larger payouts without the Russian Roulette feature that multiplies all the reel prizes together. The 88x bonus buy tells you all you need to know about the average payout, and the 11,912x potential is lower than average for this developer. Whacked! is worth trying because of the theme, but it’s not the best NoLimit City slot to go with in terms of winnings.
