With the winged bird god, Ra, floating in the top-left corner, and a mean-looking Anubis crouched to the bottom right, the stage is set for an epic battle between the forces of light and darkness. This is a decent representation of the duality of Hacksaw, as it were, and Temple of Torment can thus be seen as a symbol of all their previous releases. Ironically, it’s a game that looks less like what you might be used to from this developer than most others we’ve seen, but the visuals are top notch nonetheless.

What we mean by that is that Temple of Torment looks pretty “ordinary”, and the features aren’t the height of innovation either. The Golden Scarab Wild can expand up or down, and it can also turn into an expanded multiplier wild if a regular wild is involved. You get more of the same in the bonus round, and the top-tier feature also comes with a global win multiplier that keeps building per activated scarab wild. The 10,000x potential is solid for a medium volatile game, and even “shelf-filler” releases from Hacksaw fly way above the swamp of mediocrity.

The royal symbols pay between 5 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind, which is decent, while the premium symbols pay between 15 and 30 x your stake for the same. Wild symbols step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins, and wilds also pay 40x your stake if you land 5 on a payline.

Golden Scarab Wild Symbols are a special kind of wild that can also appear on all reels, and they expand either upwards or downwards if that means a win is generated. Review Summary

Temple of Torment is a fitting title for this game, as you will be tormented by the rather nasty howl Anubis lets out each time you land a golden scarab wild that expands downwards. The bird sounds coming from Ra are more pleasant in that regard, and this is a somewhat typical battle between the forces of “light" and “darkness” kind of game. It’s not the most eccentric release we’ve seen from Hacksaw either, and to be honest it was hard to tell it was their game at first glance.

Still, Temple of Torment is a solid release overall, with the golden scarab wilds that can turn into solid expanding multiplier wilds in all stages. Both bonus rounds have their merit, and more frequent scarab wilds combined with sticky regular wilds that turn them into multiplier wilds can be a deadly combo. The same can be said about the ever-increasing global win multiplier feature, and you can win up to 10,000x your stake in either of the bonus rounds. Not bad for a medium volatile game, and the max win hit rate is a decent 1 in 16.5 million spins as well.
