Taking candy from a witch seems like a bad idea in our view, and hardly something most parents would teach their children to do. Sweet Alchemy 100 comes with a mix of candy and witches nonetheless, but it’s a bit surprising that this game is not really a follow-up in the Sweet Alchemy series. Instead, Play’n Go has made a reskin of Moon Princess 100, so you get the exact same features, gameplay, and math model in this release.

The witches you get to meet are called Cherry, Berry, and Apple, and they can unleash their special powers on random non-winning spins. A win multiplier increases per cascade, and filling the witch meter triggers the Trinity feature. All 3 witches will then take turns showing off their special power, and you get to choose your favorite witch in the non-resetting win multiplier bonus round. The max win is 15,000x your stake as in the original game, but it’s hard to see the point in a reskin with such a similar theme.

The Candy symbols pay between 2 and 3 x your stake for 5 of a kind, while any combination of the premium witch symbols award 5x your stake. A 5 of a kind win with the same witch symbol pays 10x your stake, and the same symbol can be part of more than one winning combination. You win by landing 3 to 5 clusters of matching symbols anywhere on the grid, just to be clear.

Winning symbols are removed and replaced, and a Wild symbol is placed in the middle position of a 3 of a kind win. The win multiplier increases per cascade as well, and everything resets between base game spins. Wilds substitute for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins, and 5 wilds in a cluster pays 50x your stake. Removing all the symbols from the grid also awards 50x your stake, and this win is also boosted by whatever win multiplier has been achieved.

The Witch Power features can trigger at any given time when you land a non-winning spin in the base game. The witch that happens to be by your side will then do her thing:

• Cherry - turns a random symbol type into another symbol type.
• Berry - adds 1 or 2 wild symbols randomly placed on the grid.
• Apple - removes 2 randomly chosen symbol types from the grid.

You get a randomly assigned witch as the game starts, and the witch is replaced each time her feature has been activated.

Landing a win with witch symbols fills a 3-segment meter, and each 3 of a kind win fills 1 segment. Landing 4 of a kind or 5 of a kind wins fills 2 or all 3 segments, respectively, and filling the meter triggers the Trinity feature. This gives you 1 free spin where all 3 of the witches unleash their special power one after another. Cherry goes first, then Berry and Apple follows, and clearing the grid during this feature triggers the bonus round.

The Bonus Round gives you a choice of which witch you prefer, and you get 4, 5, or 8 free spins when you choose Cherry, Berry, or Apple, respectively. The power of the witch you choose is unleashed on every non-winning spin, and the win multiplier is carried over from the Trinity feature. The multiplier never resets in the bonus round, and it can go as high as x100. Filling the power meter awards extra spins, and you get +4 for Cherry and Berry, while Apple awards +2. Up to 100 free spins can be won in total.

Review Summary

Instead of taking the opportunity to build on the Sweet Alchemy series, Play’n Go has simply turned Sweet Alchemy 100 into a reskin of Moon Princess 100. The theme, gameplay, and math model is recycled in other words, and we don’t really see the need for a similar themed game with the exact same features. Cute witches or anime princesses aren’t that far apart, so it’s not like Sweet Alchemy 100 is gonna appeal to a different crowd anyway.

The game is solid, of course, as the original is, and it’s basically Moon Princess on steroids. Triggering the bonus round isn’t all that easy though, as you need to trigger the Trinity feature first and then clear the grid. Having all 3 of the witches perform their magic act helps, of course, and you get to choose your favorite witch when the bonus round triggers. The 15,000x potential is solid, but it comes with a 1 in 100m spins hit rate. We are a bit disappointed that this turned out to be a simple reskin job, but that’s the nature of this business.
