This reviewer was never a huge fan of sushi, but that may be due to mistaking the super-spicy wasabi for mashed peas the first time testing the Japanese delicatesse. We don’t mind a good sushi slot though, and Slashimi made a good first impression with its massive 3x5 grid and neat looking sushi symbols. The chef on the left-hand side is charming enough as well, and he knows how to cut and slice like a pro.

There is slicing and cutting going on in all stages of this game, as the main feature is the Two-For-One Symbol Splitting. This happens to random symbols per spin, and it’s your best shot at landing larger payouts due to the rather modest symbol values. You get to choose your favorite sushi symbol in the bonus round, and this becomes both a splitting and sticky symbol. The higher on the paytable you go, the more volatile the feature becomes, and the max win is 5,000x your stake.

You win by landing matching symbols on all 3 reels regardless of which row they appear on, and the premium sushi symbols pay between 0.2 and 0.5 x your stake for a win. The Sushi Chef seen on the right has a display over his head, and this display will slide in a randomly selected pay symbol per spin. Both low value maki symbols and the premium sushi symbols can be selected, and each instance of the selected symbol will be sliced in two on the grid. Sliced symbols count as two symbols when part of a win, and this increases the number of win ways up to 1,000, at best.

Symbols will sometimes land with a fluorescent wasabi icon attached, and you need 3 of those in view to trigger the Bonus Round. This is definitely not your typical Play’n Go release, but Slashimi does serve up a decent dish in terms of simple and to-the-point gameplay. The symbol values are rather low though, and without the two for one symbol splitting you’re looking at single spin max wins of 62.5x your stake. That might buy you a Sushi lunch or dinner depending on your bet level, but we wouldn’t have minded some kind of multiplier action to spice this thing up a bit.

The game is visually pleasing though, and sushi lovers will probably enjoy the show the chef is putting on. Getting only 4 initial free spins was a bit of a surprise, and the feature can be over in a blink with little to show for it many times. Even with the maxed out 1,000 win ways the single spin max win is only 500x your stake, so closing in on the 5,000x potential seems harder than usual. It requires 6 extra free spins, and the max payout on all 10 free spins, to put it into perspective.
