NetEnt fans hoping for another installment in their popular Staxx series might be disappointed. Partner studio, Red Tiger, has taken a very different route with Mystic Staxx, so the similarity is in name only. You’re gonna have to be a bit patient to appreciate this game, as nothing much happens when you start out with symbol stacks only 2 positions in height.

Each of the 8 reels land stacks of symbols per spin, and the idea is to grow these stacks via the 3x3 Expand symbol. Don’t expect to max this thing out after just a few hundred spins however, but you will notice a difference when the stacks reach 6+ symbols in height. Wild symbols step in for all regular pay symbols like wilds usually do, and the wild is also the highest value symbol in the game. Land an 8 of a kind wild line, and you’ll be awarded with a 50x your stake payout. The wild makes a comeback in a major way via the Expand symbol though, as we shall see below.

You start out with symbols stacks that are 2 positions high on each reel, but this will change when you land the 3x3 sized Expand symbol anywhere in sight. The Expand symbol needs to be fully in view to trigger the Expand feature, and this increases the symbol stacks by +1 symbol per reel.

This happens for every fully in view Expand symbol you land, until the symbols stack sizes reach the maximum of 20 symbols in height. When you have achieved this, the Expand symbol turns into a 3x3 mega wild whenever it lands. The mega wild can land anywhere, and it steps in for all regular pay symbols and pays the same as the regular wild.

Bearing no resemblance to NetEnt’s Staxx series, Mystic Staxx is a rather simple game from partner studio Red Tiger. It’s also a release that requires a healthy dose of patience, something that might be a gamestopper for some. You will not get all that much from the small symbol stack sizes you start with, and it’s gonna take you a good while to max out the stacks with 20 positions.

The good news is that things heat up a bit when the stack size equals the number of rows per reel (that would be 6), and beyond. Wild stacks are useful all the way, and if you see this thing through, you will be rewarded with 3x3 wilds and massive stacks in the end. The 2,000x potential is not much of a motivator however, even though you can land that amount from a single spin.
