Mr. Hallow-Jackpot

Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! Review

Although 'Mr. Hallow-Jackpot!', clearly inspired by the popular holiday, was released way back in 2018, this highly entertaining title from PG Soft continues to draw crowds to online casinos, especially on the eve of All Saints’ Day. It features a spooky yet fun atmosphere, with the action unfolding on a 5x4 grid that has 30 paylines that are always active. Despite the fairly high maximum multiplier of x5,000, the volatility here is set to medium, a rarity in more recent releases. However, the developers had to strike a balance, resulting in an RTP of 95.86%, which is slightly below the industry average, though this is unlikely to disappoint anyone too much.

As usual, everything here revolves around matching symbols and paylines. That is, you need to land three or more identical icons lined up consecutively on any betway starting from the leftmost reel to receive a payout. The size of the prize depends on two factors: the value of the symbols and their number in the sequence. As for the betting range, you can wager between 0.30 and 300 euros per spin. Unfortunately, PG Soft uses a somewhat convoluted method for adjusting the bet size, where you select the “Bet Size” and “Bet Level,” and the system automatically calculates the total bet amount for the round. Keeping in mind the max multiplier/max bet amount, we can assume that a prize of 1.5 million euros could theoretically appear on the screen. This is quite a good figure for a title with medium volatility.

Mr. Hallow-Jackpot - Reels Screen

Spades, hearts, clubs, and diamonds appear most frequently on the field, and they make up the lowest-paying combos in this title. Higher up in the hierarchy are themed symbols such as a zombie hand, a skull with a red bandana, a bat, and a spider. PG Soft has also added a Halloween pumpkin that acts as a Wild and a Scatter that, under certain conditions, acts as a ticket to FS mode.

Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! Features

Although we’re revisiting a title released in 2018, even back then the games weren’t limited to just basic spins. PG Soft has included two additional mechanics here, each of which adds variety to the gameplay and increases your chances of landing big multipliers. There are also Wilds that help you form combos more often than when you’re dealing with paying symbols alone.

Mini-Haunt Feature

This can happen randomly during the base game, provided that you haven’t landed any winning combos and there are no Scatters on the screen. So if luck is on your side, you’ll see between 5 and 8 randomly selected symbols on the grid replaced with themed icons (a zombie hand, a skull, a bat, or a spider). This works as a built-in mechanism that essentially turns a potentially empty spin into one that pays out. And I think this is probably what makes the volatility medium rather than high in this game.

FS Mode

Strange as it may seem, Mini-Haunt is a feature that, surprisingly, might make you not want to see Scatters. Still, these special icons are quite useful, as they can award you 8 to 20 FS. To trigger the bonus round, you need to land at least 3 Scatters anywhere on the grid. And the main feature here is the special behavior of the Wild, which is also available in the base game. That is, during free spins, any pumpkin Wild remains on the grid and moves to a random position for the next spin. This continues until the very end of the free spins round. In other words, with each new spin, the number of “sticky” Wilds on the screen can potentially increase, significantly boosting your chances of landing big combos.

Unfortunately, PG Soft does not allow Scatters to appear on the reels in Free Spins mode. This means you won’t be able to extend or retrigger the bonus round here. Still, given how the Wilds behave, Free Spins mode is where you can reach the maximum multiplier of x5,000.

Spin Options and Auto Spin

If you feel that the reels are spinning too slowly, you can switch the pace from Normal to Turbo, and this will noticeably speed up the display of game results. Also, some players don’t like clicking “Spin” every time they want to play a round at the same bet. So the developers have included an Auto Spin mode allowing you to run 10 to 1,000 rounds in a row without needing to do anything.

Theme & Graphics

Even back in 2018, they knew how to create beautiful graphics, and Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! proves it in spades. Here, we’re invited to immerse ourselves in the Halloween atmosphere. So get ready for a cemetery setting and bats. The main character here is a gentleman with a pumpkin head wearing a purple tailcoat. And it acts as a sort of show host and appears on the screen when bonus rounds are triggered. At the same time, the Scatter ghost with its amusing animation and the brightly lit Wild pumpkin fit well into the overall concept and stand out clearly against the dark background. We like that the animations and transitions in this game run smoothly and look quite fitting. And to lighten the mood, PG Soft has added a curtain around the edges of the game window, which emphasizes the theatrical, slightly circus-like presentation of the theme so you won’t be scared. Thanks to excellent mobile optimization, you can take Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! with you wherever you go, as long as there’s mobile network coverage.

Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! Free Play

Usually, when players see “medium” listed in the volatility field, they let their guard down and immediately start betting real money. But we still recommend starting with the Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! free play version. Here, you can see firsthand how often the Mini-Haunt Feature triggers and get a sense of just how promising the free spins round can be without risking your own money. The Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! demo is available right here on SlotCatalog, so you can test it out without having to search for a reliable online casino that offers PG Soft games. You’ll receive plenty of free credits and can simply restart the game if your balance runs out.

Pros & Cons of the Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! Slot

Our Verdict

If you’re looking for a quick takeaway, PG Soft’s Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! is a solid middle-of-the-road option among Halloween-themed slots. The key feature here is the well-thought-out balance of mechanics, rather than record-breaking prizes. The developer’s stated 95.86% RTP and medium volatility ensure fairly comfortable playing sessions in practice, where small wins don’t keep you waiting long. And the Mini-Haunt Feature literally “saves” unsuccessful spins by turning some symbols into winning combinations. In our opinion, this feature is the most useful in the game, as it smooths out the prolonged losing streaks typical of medium-volatility slots.

As for the FS mode, it’s responsible for larger, though not sky-high, prizes. The mechanics of the sticky, moving Wilds work on an accumulation principle. In other words, the more FS you’ve earned thanks to the Scatters, the greater the chance that the pumpkin Wilds will line up in a winning combination toward the end of the free spins. But the inability to extend the round with additional Scatters is what’s truly disappointing.

If you’re on the hunt for massive jackpots, you’ll have to up your bet or look for another game with a higher maximum multiplier. But Mr. Hallow-Jackpot! is a good fit for those looking for a relaxed, atmospheric title with straightforward rules and regular, if not record-breaking, prizes. So, this is a game for low/mid-rollers seeking something that lets them soak up the holiday spirit without taking on unnecessary risks.
