Microgaming must have been happy with All41’s debut Megaways slot, Shamrock Holmes Megaways, as the studio has been given a second chance with the gorilla themed Forgotten Island Megaways. They have not taken too many chances with this follow-up title either, but the 2 games are very different both in terms of theme and features.
The only element of innovation you’ll find here is the Kong Spin feature. However, it does make the base game far more unpredictable and interesting than what many Megaways engine games offer. The Kong Spin “multiplier jump” can even spill over into the bonus round, and set you off to a flying start towards untold riches. This is a strong second game in most respects, but pretty soon we’ll start to expect even more innovation and novelty.
The Compass wild will step in for all regular symbols here, and thus help you form winning combos. The Rolling Reels mechanic comes into play after every win, and it removes winning symbols from the reels. This is sometimes called Cascading Reels or Wins, as new symbols drop down to give you a new winning chance.
This can lead to plenty of wins on the same spin, as the feature goes on as long as you keep winning. What makes it even more interesting however, is the Kong Spin Feature. Any winning spin can trigger the gorilla on the left-hand side, and this will apply a win multiplier starting at either 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x.
Each Rolling Reels win you land from that point forward will increase the progressive multiplier by +1. There is no upper limit to this feature, but the multiplier will be removed once you land a non-winning cascade. You can trigger the bonus round from a Kong Spin also, and this means that the current multiplier is carried over into the bonus round.
You trigger the free spins round by landing at least 4 of the Kong scatter symbol anywhere in sight on the same spin. This gives you 10 free spins, but you also get 2 extra spins per extra scatter you land above the minimum of 4. You will start with the progressive win multiplier at 2x, unless it’s carried over from a base game Kong Spin.
The feature plays out pretty much like the Kong Spins, and the multiplier will increase by +1 for each Rolling Reel win. The difference is, of course, that the multiplier value does not reset between spins in the bonus round. You will also get 4 extra spins when you land 4 scatters anywhere on the same free spin.
Unless you live in the UK, or any other jurisdiction with such restrictions, you can purchase the bonus round via the bonus buy feature. You can choose between 3 different options as follows:
When you buy either of the 2 most expensive bonus rounds, the respective starting multiplier values will spin to determine which one you get.
Before we purchase the bonus round, you can see the Kong Spin multiplier increase as the gorilla beats his chest proudly. The free spins buy feature starts around 0.37 into the video, and we went with the most expensive option. Which of the starting multipliers we got however (5x or 10x), can be seen by hitting the play button. We had a pretty successful bonus round run here, hence a longer than usual highlights video.
All41 Studios does not stray too far from the standard Megaways formula with Forgotten Island Megaways. It’s understandable that they are still testing the waters with their second release in the genre, and playing it somewhat safe with a familiar theme and features. The Microgaming partner has plenty of time after all, and can experiment more in the future.
The Kong Spin feature is somewhat innovative though, and it can jump-start your Rolling Reels multiplier run quite significantly both in the base game and in the bonus round. It adds a layer of unpredictability to the whole win multiplier concept, which is nice. The 7,000x potential is not as impressive as the Megaways debut slot however, but it can be landed on a single spin here.
Pros
Cons
Gorilla Gold Megaways - comes with 4 reel sets rolled into one insane megaways engine game. You will benefit from cascading reels and mystery symbols, as well as a bonus round with an unlimited progressive win multiplier. This can lead to payouts up to 20,000x your stake, and the RTP of 97 % is also unusually high here.
Silverback: Multiplier Mountain - is a JFTW title published on Microgaming’s platform, and it plays out on 6 reels, 4 rows and 4,096 win ways. Each win in the bonus round will increase the multiplier, and also add 1 extra spin to your tally. The volatility is high, but you can win up to 25,000x your stake.
Return of Kong Megaways - comes with a gorilla that’s a lot more charming and fun than the “serious” Kong in the game at hand. The cascading reels and mystery symbol feature keeps the base game interesting, while the bonus round with progressive multiplier can lead to payouts up to 50,000x your stake.
The game’s payout percentage of 96.25 % is just a tad above the industry standard these days.
The volatility is high in this game, but so is the hit rate of 33.66 %. It’s therefore not really a desert walk between bonus rounds, as some highly volatile games are.
You can win up to 7,000x your stake on a single spin here, while most Megaways engine games come with a max win capped at 10,000x or 20,000x (or £250,000) in the bonus round.
It can be triggered on any given win, and it will boost your starting multiplier up to 10x at the most. All additional wins increase the progressive multiplier with +1 until you hit a non-winning cascade.
Yes, you get 10 free spins plus 2 extra spins per extra scatter above the minimum of 4. The multiplier starts at 2x (or is carried over from a Kong Spin), and it does not reset on non-winning cascades in the bonus round.
You can play with up to 117,649 win ways in Forgotten Island Megaways slot.

If you like Bonanza you will really appreciate this game. Once you get familiar the value symbols you feel straight at home. Main difference from Bonanza is the Kong spin feature that randomly triggers. Kong spins give you a starting multiplier from 2-10x and behave for that single spin as it would in Free-spins. Once it appears it also seems geared to a win. I played a few hundred rounds and in about 20 appearences of Kong Spins I hit on all but one so there seem to be some correlation in the mechanics that Kong spin wont be triggered unless you are very likley to hit. Also there is the Free-spin buy-in feature which (although costly) allows you to experience the free-rounds if you were not able to trigger them in your regular play. Had a winning outcome which tends to make the game appreciated :) Lets see where this will end but I definatley will have more attempts at getting a really big win here..
