Who doesn’t remember the charming Scottish battle cats from Snowborn’s original Cat Clans, and things have taken an unexpected turn in this sequel. Cat Clans 2 - Mad Cats is a post-apocalyptic steampunk installment in what will probably become a whole series, and the armed-to-the-teeth felines look like they could star in the next Mad Max movie. They look more tough than charming this time, and this is a high-octane release with a lot going for it.

Some elements from the original game have been carried over, but there is plenty of new stuff to sink your teeth into here. Mystery boxes play a central part, as do instant cash prize symbols, and you can rack up plenty of that in the Mad Respins feature. The bonus round with increasing multiplier sticky wilds is similar, albeit with the possibility of a higher spin tally, and you can still win up to 20,000x your stake. Fans will hardly be disappointed, and Cat Clans 2 - Mad Cats will probably appeal to many newcomers as well.

The premium cat symbols pay between 10 and 12.5 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and you can land grenade Wild symbols on any reel as well. The Wilds step in for any pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins, and they pay 111x your stake for 5 wilds on the same payline. Wilds come with random multiplier values between x1 and x5 in the base game, and these will multiply together if the wilds partake in the same win. The wild multipliers can go up to x10 in the Furry Spins bonus round.

The Mystery Box symbols reveal a randomly chosen and matching pay symbol when they appear, and they can also reveal wilds and cash prize symbols. You can also land Cash Prize symbols organically, and they instantly award between 0.2 and 50 x your stake.

The Mad Respins feature triggers at random times, but only when a Paw overlay symbol is collected. You will land only blanks and Mystery Box symbols in this feature, and you get a new respin as long as you land at least 1 mystery box. The mystery boxes reveal random symbols as usual, and the mystery symbols are revealed with a payout as the feature ends.

The Furry Spins Bonus Round triggers from 3, 4, or 5 scatters in view, and this pays 1.5, 3, or 9 x your stake up front, respectively. You also get 3, 4, or 5 free spins, respectively, and all Wild symbols that appear become sticky for the duration of the bonus round. Each wild symbol also resets the spin tally each time they land, and a random sticky wild will have its multiplier upgraded by +1 per spin. The feature ends when you run out of spins.

Review Summary

We really like what Snowborn has done with the theme in this follow-up, and the hardcore Mad Max action vibe takes things to a whole new level of excitement. The original has been a huge success for this developer though, so it's admirable that Snowborn has the guts to take a chance on totally revamping the style of the game. We didn’t really miss the Clan Battle feature that much when playing either, as you get mystery symbols, cash prizes, and the Mad Respins feature instead.

The Mad Respins feature has been seen before, but it’s still fun to see how many sticky mystery boxes you can rack up before the big reveal as the feature ends. It can lead to solid payouts as well, and not least if you get prize symbols or wilds. You get up to 5 free spins that reset per new wild compared to 3 in the first game, and the multiplier upgrade system works more or less the same. Up to x10 wild multipliers are possible here though, but the overall max win is still a solid 20,000x your stake. Cat Clans 2 - Mad Cats is definitely a worthy follow-up, and it will be interesting to see if fans of the first game agree.
