81 Tumble Hot comes from EGT Digital and uses four reels, three rows and 81 ways to win. Cherries, lemons, oranges, plums, watermelon and grapes make up most of the symbols. Bells and red 7s are there too, with the red 7 paying the most.

The difference shows up after a win. Those symbols disappear and the spaces are filled again, which can leave you with another combination before the spin is actually finished. I had a few of these sequences run through several tumbles, and that's where the Wilds become particularly useful. They can appear anywhere on the four reels, with 2x, 4x or 8x attached to them. Up to three can be on screen together.

There's more away from the reels as well. Clover Chance can turn up randomly and uses 15 chests, with Mini, Minor, Major and Grand progressive jackpots available. Regular wins can also be taken to Gamble if you want to risk them on a red-or-black card pick.

Most of what happens in 81 Tumble Hot starts with a regular reel win. One win can lead to another through the Toppling Reels, and a 2x, 4x or 8x Wild can turn up somewhere in the process. Clover Chance and Gamble sit outside these tumbling sequences.

Toppling Reels

Winning symbols don't stay on the reels. They disappear and the symbols above fall into their places, with new ones coming in from the top. Sometimes that's it. If the new layout pays again, though, you get another tumble from the same spin.

There's no set number of tumbles. The sequence only ends when the new symbols fail to produce another win, and then you move on to the next paid spin.

Wild Multipliers

The Wild can show up on any of the four reels and substitutes for the regular paying symbols. What makes it more useful here is the multiplier attached to it.

There are three values: 2x, 4x, and 8x.

You can have up to three Wilds on the screen at once. If a Wild is part of a winning combination, its multiplier increases that win. This is the feature I paid most attention to during longer tumbles, especially when another win formed after the first symbols had disappeared.

Clover Chance

Clover Chance doesn't need a particular symbol combination on the reels. It can trigger randomly at the end of a game round and takes you to a screen with 15 closed chests.

Behind them are pearl symbols connected to four progressive jackpots: Mini, Minor, Major and Grand. There are also special clovers that can move a jackpot prize up one level.

You keep opening chests until the feature decides which jackpot you receive. I like that it's kept separate from the Toppling Reels; when Clover Chance appears, you're playing something completely different from the regular fruit game.

Gamble

Gamble gives you the option to put a win on red or black rather than collect it straight away.

Get the colour right and the amount you're gambling is doubled. Pick the wrong one and that amount is lost. It's an optional feature, so you can simply collect the original win instead.

It's simple, but everything is easy to recognise even when the reels start moving quickly.

There isn't much happening in the background either. The reels get most of the space, surrounded by red and gold details. I noticed the Wild immediately when it appeared, helped by the multiplier shown on the symbol.

The game looks better to me once the Toppling Reels get going. A winning group disappears, another set of symbols drops in and you can end up watching the same spin for quite a bit longer than expected. It gives an otherwise very traditional-looking slot some movement.

Clover Chance is where the design changes properly. Instead of fruit symbols, you're opening chests and watching the four jackpot levels. Then it's straight back to the old-school reels once the feature is over.

Pros And Cons Of 81 Tumble Hot Slot

81 Tumble Hot keeps things fairly simple, but the Toppling Reels and multiplier Wilds give the base game more life than I'd expect from a four-reel fruit slot. Clover Chance adds something completely different, although there isn't much variety beyond these few features.

Our Verdict

81 Tumble Hot is much more my kind of classic fruit slot once the reels actually start moving. The first spin can look basic, but a win isn't always the end of it. I've had more fun watching two or three tumbles play out than I would have expected from a game with only four reels.

The Wilds help a lot here. A 2x isn't particularly exciting on its own, but 4x and especially 8x are different when they turn up at the right point in a sequence. You can have as many as three Wilds on screen as well, so there's always the possibility of something better happening after the next drop. That's the part I'd be watching rather than the individual fruit payouts.

Clover Chance feels almost like it belongs to another game. One moment you're looking at cherries and red 7s, then you're opening chests with four progressive jackpots in play. I don't mind the change, especially because it's triggered randomly and doesn't ask you to collect a particular set of symbols first. The level-up clovers give the chest feature another little twist if they appear.

There's also an 81 Tumble Hot High RTP version, and that's the obvious comparison if you're choosing between the two. The regular game can be connected to Clover Chance and comes in several RTP configurations, reaching 96.80%. The High RTP version drops the jackpot connection in favour of a higher return. I'd look at which version a casino is offering rather than assuming they're interchangeable.

I wouldn't come to 81 Tumble Hot looking for a complicated bonus slot. There are no Free Spins to work towards, and most of my interest stayed with the tumbles and multiplier Wilds. For a game built around fruits, bells and a red 7, though, there's enough happening between one reel stop and the next to keep it from feeling like another basic fruit machine.
