It’s always a bit risky for a developer to make a superhero themed game that’s not branded. Red Tiger has been known to take their chances before though, and at least you know up front that 4Squad slot will not rely on famous household names and brand recognition to be a success. It has to prove itself worthy of “superhero status” on the merits of the game alone, and we think Red Tiger has done a very good job here, although there is one major achilles heel.
We’ll get to that soon enough, but let’s first cover the basics. The visual style is cartoonish, as you can expect from a theme like this, and the superheroes are all well-made and believable. They do not come across as copycats, and they actually look kind of cool when they get to shine as their respective reel modifier is triggered. This happens via the bonus meters above the reels, and you can even get all 4 features triggered at the same time.
The cascading wins feature makes sure there is plenty of action in the base game, and you will quite often see at least 2 or 3 superheros combine their efforts to land you decent payouts. Filling all 4 superhero meters in the same round is what triggers the bonus round here, and wins up to 1,279x your stake is possible. This is the biggest drawback of this game, as medium volatility usually comes with a higher potential than that. Still, 4Squad is very playable and entertaining, and the gameplay is pleasantly smooth and fast-paced.
What symbols are there?
The golden power fist inside a circle that contains all the superheroes’ respective colors is the most valuable symbol here. The other 4 premium symbols are the superheroes themselves, and we’ll get to why they each come with a distinct color when we talk about the game’s bonus features right after this. The royal symbols of low value also come in the 4 different superhero colors, and you need between 5 and 20 symbols in a cluster to win. Here is the paytable for 4Squad slot:
- Power fist - Pays 50x for 20+ in a cluster
- Beam (yellow) - Pays 9x for 20+ in a cluster
- Burst (red) - Pays 8.1x for 20+ in a cluster
- Strike (blue) - Pays 6x for 20+ in a cluster
- Quake (green) - Pays 5.3x for 20+ in a cluster
- Royal symbols - Pay between 4.5x and 3x for 20+ in a cluster
What are the bonus features?
Above the reels you’ll see the 4 superheroes represented inside a circular bonus meter, and the colors of the superheroes are also represented in the royal symbols. This means that any cluster win you get will contribute to filling up the bonus meter of the corresponding superhero, and each superhero comes with a unique bonus feature.
How much of the meter that gets filled is determined by the number of symbols you land and the symbols respective value. This is where the Cascading wins feature comes to the rescue. You don’t have to fill the meter on the first win, as it does not reset as long as you keep getting cascading wins. All meters will reset once you start fresh with a brand new spin, however.
You can fill more than one bonus meter at the time, and the corresponding reel modifiers will then play out one after another. Here are the 4 different superheroes in order from left to right, and the corresponding bonus feature they have to offer during gameplay:
- Quake (green meter) – removes all lower value symbols. A new cascade drops from above, and usually gives you plenty of room to create new winning clusters.
- Strike (blue meter) – electricity is in the air when this feature goes off, and a random selection of symbols are zapped. This turns them into wild symbols, and you can get quite a lot of wilds via this modifier.
- Burst (red meter) – random symbols are cloned on the grid, which makes it easier to form winning clusters.
- Beam (yellow meter) – gives you a multiplier boost between 2x and 10x, which can really help you land bigger wins.
Just to make it clear, the highest paying power fist symbol does not fill up any meter when you land it in a winning cluster.
Free spins in 4Squad
Perhaps you’re wondering what would happen if you managed to fill up all 4 of the bonus meters in one cascading win session? That is very possible indeed, and it will trigger the game’s free spins feature. This bonus round is called Superhero Mode, and you get only 1 free spin. Does not sound like a lot does it, but hang on, as this one spin can turn out to be really valuable.
Here is the good news about this 1 spin feature. All low value royal symbols are removed on this spin, and all of the 4 superhero features will play out one after another. As you can imagine, this one spin can lead to pretty massive payouts, and the cascading wins feature is also in play to prolong the bonus round and increase your winnings. You cannot, however, fill up the superhero meters during the free spin bonus round.

The 200 Spins 4Squad Experience
The time has finally come to take this baby for a spin, and the big highlight for us is always when we get to test our beginner’s luck on a brand new slot. The first impression of 4Squad was that it looked like a fast-paced and fun superhero slot, and we really enjoyed our 200 spin test run on this game. Let’s jump right into it!
We changed the bet level from £2 (which is the default) to £1, as this makes it easier to understand how much you win per total stake. Then we glanced over the paytable, and set the autospins to 100. Being a game of medium volatility, we expected decent wins once in a while, and this is pretty much what we got also.
We quickly realized that the superhero features are key to bigger wins here, and you cannot expect much from the regular base game wins. The good news is that you’ll trigger at least one superhero feature quite often, but many times it will pile up to 2 or 3 consecutive superhero modifiers in a row.
We won between 8x and 26x whenever one or more of the superheroes got involved, and towards the end of our first 100 spins we managed to fill all 4 superhero meters. The single free spin played out with plenty of cascading wins, and it was rather fun to see all 4 of the superheroes take their turn to increase our winnings.
After each of the features had played out, our total winnings equalled £60 for this round, and soon after this we somehow managed to trigger the bonus round again. This time we won a solid 78x our stake, and in the end of the 200 spins we were left with a £50 profit. Please understand that this is our subjective experience with this game, and your beginner’s luck might differ from ours.
You have to take this game for what it is, namely a non-branded superhero slot aimed at casual players. Within that context Red Tiger has made a solid game, even though we would have preferred a higher max win potential than 1,279x. The gameplay has this oddly satisfying feel that some Avalanche engine games have, and it’s fast-paced with enough superhero action to keep you going.
The visuals are well-made too, and it’s always exciting to see how many superhero meters you can fill, as you climb towards the bonus round where they all combine their efforts. Still, it feels a bit amputated when the wins don’t really match the bells and whistles, but for casual players who want lower risk entertainment, 4Squad slot certainly provides plenty of that.
- 4 superhero reel modifiers
- Bonus round where all 4 superhero features combine
- Medium volatility aimed at casual players
- 1,279x max win is a bit low

Any fan of superhero themed slots will have no problem finding new games to try. In fact, there are so many out there, as well as new ones coming every month or so, that it can be hard to know which one to choose. Here we’ve picked out a few noteworthy superhero games you can check out right away.
Justice League Comic - is a branded Marvel slot featuring Batman, Wonder Women, Superman and Aquaman, as well as the evil supervillains Joker, Darkseid and Cheetah. You can win 1 of 4 progressive jackpots here, and the Grand jackpot seeds at £200,000. You can also win up to 16,000x your stake in the bonus round, and there is one bonus feature per villain in this action-packed game from Playtech.
Bloodshot Rising Spirit - is also a branded effort, based around the ex-military cyborg super soldier, Bloodshot, from the Valiant Comic franchise. A movie starring Vin Diesel as the muscular action hero was recently released (early 2020), and the main attraction here is the 12,947.4x max win and the 3 different bonus rounds where you choose between low, medium or high volatility.
Suicide Squad - is based on the blockbuster movie from 2016, and it comes with 4 progressive jackpots as part of the DC Super Heroes Jackpot network. The 5 main characters are Katana (Karen Fukuhara), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), The Joker (Jared Leto) and Deadshot (Will Smith), and this game is jam packed with explosive action and exciting bonus features.
