Our Verdict

Playson sticks firmly to their tried-and-tested playbook with this release, slapping a glossy layer of neon polish onto a retro-style fruit machine-inspired game. Even before 4 Supershiny Diamonds is finished loading, you pretty much know what you’re in for. Players into the 3-pot concept may welcome this with open arms, while fence-sitters and those who dislike this bonus round idea may feel lukewarm at best. I happen to fall into the latter category myself, but I will try my best to judge this release based more on its merits than my personal preference.

First of all, I don’t get why so many of these 3-pot games have no base game features. It’s like they all follow the same recipe even about that aspect. I see no compelling reason for this, and 4 Supershiny Diamonds is no exception. Something as simple as a teaser of the bonus round features would go a long way in making the base game less of a grind than it feels like now. The base game also mostly delivers moderate top-up wins at best, sometimes with help from the wilds. The Extra Bet option is tempting, of course, but I would never go for that without knowing exactly what I’m paying extra for.

Usually, the super bonus round in these types of games involves all 3 features being active from the start. However, this is not the case with 4 Supershiny Diamonds. Instead, you get a larger 5x5 grid compared to the 5x3 grid in the regular bonus, which is decent but still feels a bit shallow. Of course, you also get a significantly larger full-grid jackpot, but then again, the larger grid is harder to fill. I would’ve preferred all 3 features instead, to be honest, as I don’t like the feeling of “missing out” when the bonus round doesn’t fire on all cylinders.

Anyway, I was unable to trigger the super bonus during my test session, and with no disclosed hit rate, it’s difficult to tell how rare it is. The regular bonus seemed to come along relatively frequently, though, but usually with only one or two features active from the get-go. However, like in so many 3-pot games, you immediately get the sense that jackpots are needed to truly do damage. Regular prize symbols usually offer limited payouts, even if boosted by the different modifiers. All in all, 4 Supershiny Diamonds is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of deal, with no real surprises under the hood. It’s an okay game for what it is, but nothing more either.
