Our Verdict

YGR has really thrown themselves headlong into this series, which is bold considering how the lack of a proper bonus round affects its mainstream appeal. You have to give them credit for being innovative with regard to the multiplier feature, though, as they keep coming up with new stuff. You get to see the same stepped Mayan pyramid temple from different angles and with slightly different jungle backdrops for every new release, which is a clever way to keep things fresh and alive.

The soundtrack of Maya Golden City 4 is perhaps not the best of this range, at least not in my humble opinion. Games like this are better served with proper tribal drums and lively jungle sounds, not a happy-go-lucky tune you may expect from a cartoonish stroll in the forest. Anyway, this is hardly a deal-breaker, and the soundtrack is overall pleasant enough if you don’t think too much about it (which is kind of my job to do, just saying).

I really like the infinity loop of multiplier balls rolling around and how they speed up for each spin to build anticipation. This is a highly unique multiplier system, and it can certainly deliver massive boosts to boot. A full screen win may be boosted by up to x135, granted that all 9 positions hold a Maya frame. This is, of course, rare to see, but overall, you can expect frequent multiplier action. Not every boost will take you to the peak of the pyramid, of course, but I landed some decent wins in my test session.

I did notice that the multiplier boosts seemed to hit less frequently with the Lucky Boost ante bet turned on. However, it’s hard to tell if this is by design or just an unlucky streak. Either way, my multiplier boosts weren’t that much higher than during regular play, even though more x10 and x15 balls were present in the track. Again, could be bad luck, and it’s impossible to say with no stats disclosed. Maya Golden City 4 is a fun game for a while, but the mediocre 1,700x max win isn’t really worth chasing for longer sessions.
