Well, we already have the smash hit original game that started it all, and it too comes with a Greek mythology theme. Pragmatic Play has therefore simply named this remake release Gates of Heaven, but you will be hard pressed to find any pearly gates here. Saint Peter is nowhere to be seen as well, unless he’s grown a massive beard and carries a spear, that is. Jokes aside, Gates of Heaven does come with a single selling point that merits a new release, and that is the 98 % top-tier RTP.

This means better returns in the long run, to be clear, but the max win probability is not disclosed like it is in some other installments in this series. As in the original Gates of Olympus, everything revolves around the accumulating multiplier symbols feature, and this can lead to solid payouts in all stages of the game. Your odds are improved when the multiplier never resets in the bonus round, and the max win of 5,000x your stake hasn’t changed either. Whether or not Gates of Heaven is the obvious choice is hard to tell without a full disclosure of the relevant stats.

You win by landing 8-9 to 12-30 matching symbols anywhere in view, and you win between 0.25 to 10 x your stake for 8-9 winning symbols. You win between 2 and 50 x your stake for 12+ matching symbols in view, and all winning symbols are removed via the Tumble feature. The gaps are filled by new and/or existing symbols dropping down from above, and this repeats until you hit a non-winning tumble. This game does not come with a wild symbol.

There are 4 different color Multiplier symbols in this game, and they can appear anywhere in all stages of the game. They come with multiplier values between x2 and x500, and their values are accumulated until the end of the tumble sequence. The sum total of the multiplier values will then boost your total tumble sequence win, and everything resets for the next base game spin.

You need at least 4 scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and you get 15 free spins either way. In addition, you get a scatter win of 3, 5, or 100 x your stake for 4, 5, or 6 triggering scatters, respectively. The win multiplier keeps building like in the base game, but the difference is that it never resets for as long as the bonus round lasts. You win +5 extra free spins from landing 3+ scatters in the same tumble sequence.

The Ante Bet feature is available in some jurisdictions, and you can turn it on to double your bonus round chances. This will cost you 25 % more per spin. Non-UK players can also take advantage of the Bonus Buy option, and buying the feature costs 100x the stake. This gives you 4+ triggering scatters on the spin that follows, and the RTP does not change.

Review Summary

We have already visited plenty of gates guarded by different warrior gods in this Pragmatic Play series, and it would’ve been kind of cool if they actually made a Christian installment with a warrior Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates. The title of this release is Gates of Heaven after all, but that bearded guy with a spear hardly looks like Saint Peter. Any way you slice it, this is yet another Gates of Olympus copycat job, but the top-tier 98 % RTP makes it a solid alternative for sure. The theme should please most players as well, although it’s a bit too similar to the original Gates of Olympus in our view.

The multiplier symbols do their thing just as well in this release as in previous installments, and perhaps even better given the higher theoretical returns. That is true in the long run at least, but it would’ve been nice to also know the bonus round hit rate and max win probability (which is revealed in some of the previous games in this series). You can still win up to 5,000x your stake, and this is most likely to occur when the multiplier keeps building in the bonus round. The 98 % RTP is a strong selling point for sure, but with incomplete stats it’s hard to tell whether or not Gates of Heaven makes all the previous installments obsolete.
