I am not a big fan of Chinese culture, but I have enjoyed Cai Shen Fishing, an Asian-themed game. It was created by JDB in 2020 and tells the story of the Chinese God of Wealth. This game mixes multiplayer action – up to 4 players can jump in at the same time – with strategic shooting mechanics. On top of that, it packs some really cool bonus features.

I also like the option to choose a risk level before launching the arcade game – Newbie, Expert, or Cai Shen. The underwater trip can start with as little as $0.01. Still, if you want to bet more, use $100 per shot.

Cai Shen Fishing has medium volatility and lets you win up to 1,000x the bet. However, you won’t see any classic reels here. Instead, you’re handed a bunch of virtual cannons to blast at all kinds of fish and sea creatures cruising along the ocean floor. Each one comes with its own multiplier, so the more high-value targets you nail, the juicier your payout gets.

I’ve also got to say a few words about the symbols in Cai Shen Fishing. They’re all inspired by ocean creatures, each with its own value and role. Since Cai Shen (the God of Wealth) can trigger bonus features and massive multipliers (up to 300x), it was my main target while playing. You should also keep an eye on such high-paying icons:

• Rare jellyfish and the big manta ray, which can pay 40x–50x;
• The golden hammerhead-style shark, worth 80x;
• The lucky golden fish statue, which pays up to 100x.

After that come the mid-range creatures – octopus, pufferfish, sharks, and other brightly colored fish – usually giving me anywhere from around 12x to 30x. The low-paying symbols in Cai Shen Fishing are the tiny fish and starfish you see all the time, which sit in the 2x–10x range.

Wheel of Fortune

You’ll also run into a mini-game here. All you have to do is snag the Fortune Wheel card – that’s your ticket in. Pick a random spot on the screen, and you can score anywhere from 40x to 200x.

Tempest Turtle and Thunder Turtle

In the Cai Shen Fishing game, you can run into two types of turtles – one with a green shell emblem and another with a blue one. The green one, the Tempest Turtle, triggers the Storm Chain feature. When it hits, a random number of fish types with a value of up to 20x are wiped out and collected. You can also randomly snag extra rewards ranging from 50x to 200x.

The other Turtle, the Thunder Turtle, sets off a lightning chain, zapping random fish types worth up to 40x. You can also score bonus rewards ranging from 50x to 300x.

Fortune Bazooka and Free Bullets

This feature is tied to your weapon, and it’s definitely a treat for anyone who, like me, loves squeezing the max out of every game. When you trigger the Fortune Bazooka special weapon, you first get an instant 10x payout and then a random batch of 20 to 100 free bullets. Sometimes, if luck’s really on your side and the feature re-triggers, you can even stack this up to a total of 999 free bullets.

Extra Bet Weapons

Cai Shen Fishing offers to buy three weapon types to boost your fishing opportunities:

• Pyrotechnic Shell. By paying 3x your stake, you can get a Pyrotechnic Shell, which significantly boosts your capture rate and increases the chances of triggering the JU BAO LIAN LIAN feature. This weapon ignores the tiniest fish (2x–3x), focusing on more valuable targets and giving you a shot at the special BA FANG SI FU reward.
• Tiger Cannon. Pay 6x the stake and increase your chances to receive the JU BAO LIAN LIAN function and land the BA FANG SI FU reward. This cannon won’t capture the very low-value fish (2x–6x), so it’s better at locking onto chunkier multipliers.
• Dragon Cannon. The cost of this weapon is 15x your bet. Once activated, it boosts your chances of hitting JU BAO LIAN LIAN and also gives you the best shot at landing the special BA FANG SI FU reward. The Dragon Cannon skips all the small fry up to 15x and is tuned to go after the really high-value targets instead.

Theme & Graphics

As I mentioned, all the action in Cai Shen Fishing takes place on the ocean floor, so the design fits flawlessly. The fish and other symbols are well-crafted, stylish, and colorful. The animations are quite spectacular, especially when shots are fired, and coins start flying.

The interface isn’t instantly intuitive, so I’d suggest taking a moment to get a feel for how everything works, especially if you’re a newbie. That said, you’ll quickly notice all the key controls are at the bottom, and if you want to buy weapons, head to the right.

From my personal standpoint, this game is not for everyone. Therefore, I would recommend using Cai Shen Fishing free play at first. Alright, to wrap up everything I’ve laid out here – Cai Shen Fishing is fast-paced, gripping, and definitely won’t leave shooter fans bored. The fact that you can play alongside other players and tweak the difficulty level is a nice little bonus. The max win could’ve been bigger – 1,000x isn’t exactly gonna blow modern gamblers away. But hey, the developer kinda makes up for it with a ton of random bonuses that can drop when you least expect them.

The Cai Shen Fishing graphics are punchy, though some bits feel a little dated. If you’re after something along the same vibe but fresher, give Ninja Fishing a test.
