The iconic myth of the Phoenix Bird rising from the ashes is heavy with symbolic meaning, as the old dies the new arises, and so forth. This mythological creature once again takes center stage in a slot game, this time called Resurrecting Riches. True to its name, this Pragmatic Play release is filled with riches, and it plays out on a 6x3 grid with the fiery and treasure-filled lair of the Phoenix as the backdrop.

The main attraction in Resurrecting Riches is undoubtedly the bonus round, where Money symbols contribute their value to each position they appear on. Each position’s value builds per Money symbol, with all money symbols being ‘resurrected’ to be collected each time a Collect symbol lands. Money collecting is the name of the game in Resurrecting Riches Pragmatic Play, and you’ll get plenty of that in both the base game and the bonus round. Several features can help you collect even more money symbols, and we’ll take a closer look at everything below.

Money Collect Feature

Money Symbols can land on reels 1 to 5, revealing prize values of 1x to 500x your stake. The Money Symbols can also reveal a number of free spins instead of cash prizes. The Phoenix Bird Collect symbol can land on the rightmost reel 6 only, with only one Collect symbol being possible per spin. The Collect symbol expands to cover the full reel, collecting all Money Symbol values in view, including any free spins symbol.

Mystery Symbols

Mystery symbols can appear both in the base game and in the bonus round, revealing either the same randomly chosen pay symbol or money symbols.

Respin Feature

If you land 5 Money Symbols with no Collect symbol to collect the prizes, the Respin feature kicks in after regular line wins have been summed up. During the Respin feature, only new money symbols and/or the Collect symbol may appear, and landing the Collect symbol awards all present Money symbol prizes.

Resurrecting Riches Free Spins

The Bonus Round triggers when you land the Collect symbol together with at least one Money Symbol that reveals free spins. The number of free spins awarded is randomly determined depending on what is revealed, and you either get 8, 10, or 12 free spins. All Money Symbols that land during the bonus round leave a shadow of themselves on that position.

All shadow Money Symbols are ‘resurrected’ to be collected for each new Collect symbol that lands. New Money Symbols add their value to the existing shadow symbol value in the same position, and you’re guaranteed at least one Collect symbol per bonus round. The free spins feature cannot be retriggered and you cannot win extra free spins either.

The prize is 80x your stake and it awards a triggering spin where the Collect and Bonus Money symbol is guaranteed to land. Theme & Graphics

Resurrecting Riches takes you into the lair of the legendary Phoenix, with piles of gold coins and other treasures in the backdrop. The reels are filled with gems and ornamented royal symbols, with stylized phoenix birds displayed in each top corner of the golden grid frame. The glowing ashes falling from the background fires add to the dramatic atmosphere, only further enhanced by the epic soundtrack.

Pros and Cons of Resurrecting Riches

Our Verdict

Although there are some innovative elements in Resurrecting Riches slot, it still feels overly formulaic. This is one of the main issues with many Pragmatic Play slots in general. Technically, the game looks good and all, but there is no sense of real depth or heart. The animations do their thing and the features play out, but even if you win, you’re still left with that empty feeling you may experience after gobbling down a junk food meal.

The unoriginal gemstone symbols hardly help, as they only add to the impersonal vibe this game gives off. I did like the expanding Phoenix Bird Collect symbol, however, but it does little to add some sorely needed personality to Resurrecting Riches. Of course, not every game has to be filled with quirky characters and whatnot, and we get that some players like mythological themes filled with gold coins and riches. At least you get plenty of that in this release.

On the plus side, Resurrecting Riches is a fairly well-balanced slot game with enough features working in tandem to keep you somewhat entertained. The Money Prizes could’ve extended beyond the somewhat mediocre 500x, perhaps, but both the mystery symbols and the Respin feature help out when you least expect it. Especially the Respin feature is helpful to land larger payouts in the base game, but it’s also a source of frustration when you don’t land the all-important Collect symbol.

Accumulating money prize values via the shadow symbol system in the bonus round is somewhat original, and can be fun. However, it’s equally frustrating to see prizes accumulate without being able to collect them. At least you’re guaranteed one collection per feature, but it often comes early on in my experience. Overall, Resurrecting Riches is a decent game to kill some time with, not least if you like the core concept, but it’s hardly I game I will return to anytime soon.
