By this point, cryptocurrencies have become a pretty mundane part of our lives, though the whole thing seems to have mutated in a fairly ugly direction. I have never been particularly interested in crypto, so my knowledge starts somewhere around Bitcoin, continues through the rise of Ethereum, and mostly ends with memes. And memes were good.

If I remember correctly, one of the early classics was "To the moon!", shouted whenever prehistoric crypto traders guessed, or cheered themselves into believing, that some new coin was about to explode. Then came "Wen Moon?" when that moon trip kept getting postponed. Also, Bizonacci's Wojak videos were genuinely great.

Crypto as a concept is pretty interesting, but most of my real interactions with it involved dumb cryptobros, which got annoying very quickly. These days, the space is also heavily associated with scam coins, hype cycles, and exactly those cryptobros. So why am I talking about all this? Pragmatic Play decided to play with the whole crypto narrative in Moon Rush, where a bunch of animal coins are racing toward that mythical moon.

The base setup is pretty much what you would expect from Pragmatic Play: a spacious 6x5 grid powered by a Pay Anywhere payout system and Cascades. Pay Anywhere awards wins for 8+ matching symbols anywhere on the grid, while Cascades remove winning symbols and let new ones drop into the empty positions.

The math profile is not fancy, but it looks pretty solid. Moon Rush comes with a 96.5% RTP, which is a good value by current standards. Volatility is Medium, so sessions should feel fairly balanced, while the maximum win reaches 5,000x the bet, which fits this setup quite well.

The core feature set once again revolves around multipliers, though Moon Rush handles them through marked grid positions instead of regular multiplier symbols. The remaining mechanics support this system by increasing the chance of reaching Free Spins, placing multipliers on the grid before a spin, or opening the bonus round directly.

Multiplier Spots

Multiplier Spots form the main mechanic of Moon Rush. Whenever a winning combination lands, the positions beneath its symbols become marked with x2 multipliers. Any later win using a marked position gets multiplied, while the multiplier on that spot doubles after the win. Individual spots can grow all the way to x128.

If several marked positions take part in the same win, their multiplier values are added together and applied to that payout. During the base game, all marked positions reset once you start a new paid spin.

Landing 4 or more Scatters triggers the Free Spins round with 10 initial spins. Another 4 Scatters during the feature add 10 extra spins.

Theme and Graphics

Visually, Moon Rush is pretty okayish. Everything works fine, but Pragmatic Play did not go particularly far with the presentation. The backdrop uses familiar cyberspace imagery, complete with glowing grids, neon colours, and that mythical green chart arrow that apparently means somebody is making money. The grid itself sits inside a chunky metal frame, which fits the whole tech-heavy theme well enough.

The animal coin symbols could have used a bit more work. They get the meme-coin idea across, though several of them look more functional than memorable. Animations fare better, especially once wins, Cascades, and Multiplier Spots start stacking effects across the grid.

Sound design is probably my favourite part of the presentation. Moon Rush comes with a pretty good electronic OST, while sound effects are suitably punchy. It gives the game more character than the visuals manage on their own.

Moon Rush is a pretty balanced release, but there is no particular hook that really grabs my attention. Multiplier Spots have appeared in earlier Pragmatic Play releases and plenty of slots from other studios, so the core mechanic hardly feels fresh at this point.

The presentation has some nice ideas, especially the crypto theme and sound design, though the visuals could have gone further. Overall, Moon Rush is a decent slot with a solid math profile and easy-to-follow mechanics, just nothing especially fancy.
