Our Verdict

While I fall outside of the target audience of the Mahjong Princess slot, I still had a decent time testing the game. It caters to Asian players more than Westerners, and this type of simple, mobile-friendly slot is highly popular in that part of the world. The tile game on which this slot is based originated in China, and although it has long since spread to the West, I’ve never played it myself. However, if you are a Mahjong enthusiast, Mahjong Princess will probably have a stronger appeal.

The polished visuals still have their charm, though, but the action commentary from the male and female is hard to understand unless you speak Chinese. The princess has an endearing laughter that you get to hear a lot when you win, and with the turbo switched on, you can look forward to fast-paced action with lots of smaller to mid-sized wins in the base game. It’s never boring, at least, and the gold-plated wild transformation comes in handy to keep you going.

I got to the x5 multiplier plenty of times in the base game, and also hit the x10 multiplier quite frequently in the bonus round. Still, my payouts were never all that impressive, which becomes understandable after a quick glance at the paytable. The top-tier symbol awards only 1.75x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. So, even with an x10 boost, you’re still looking at “only” 17.5x your stake. Granted, you will win more in total when you top out the multiplier, but still.

What I am trying to say is that the stated 100,000x max win has to be taken with a grain of salt, or perhaps more like a tablespoon (don’t try that at home, folks!). All in all, Mahjong Princess is a fairly typical Gonzo-mechanic slot with the added benefit of wild transformations, but FastSpin could’ve done more to make it stand out. A higher multiplier range would’ve been appreciated, and they should also consider revealing the highest win they got during testing instead of this “theoretical” win cap. Anyway, Mahjong Princess is enjoyable enough for what it is, but it’s hardly groundbreaking.
