3 Oaks continues with their, until now, yearly installment in the Coin Volcano series, and Coin Volcano 2 is a return to the roots after last year’s deviation with 3 Coin Volcanoes. With a bigger and bolder grid and math model than the first game, you get even more explosive volcano action this time. Strap yourself in for frequent eruptions in 3 different bonus rounds, although the most high-yielding feature is only available via the bonus buy menu.

Coin Volcano 2 slot plays out on a 3x5 grid where each position spins independently. Since you cannot win anything in the base game, there are no paylines or a traditional symbol paytable. You can choose between 3 spin speed settings, and the main aim of the base game is to trigger the bonus round. This happens when you land 3 bonus symbols of any kind on the highlighted center row, and sticky bonus symbols remain frozen in place until the end of the next bonus.

You will also notice that all bonus symbols that land on the center row are collected by the volcano to the left of the reels, and this can trigger the ultra bonus round at random times. The volcano erupts to upgrade positions with multipliers during the bonus round, and this happens more frequently in the ultra bonus. The purchasable boost bonus round comes with higher multiplier values per upgrade, and the Coin Volcano 2 max win is bumped up to 5,000x your stake. Sticky Coins

The Sticky Coin lands with cash prize values between 5x and 9x your stake, and the symbol remains frozen in place until the end of the next bonus game or ultra bonus game. If the sticky coin appears on the middle row, it can help trigger the bonus game, but it does not increase the chances of triggering the feature. Since there are no base game wins, Sticky Coins pay at the end of the next bonus game.

Filling the middle row with bonus symbols of any kind triggers the Bonus Game, and all present symbols become sticky on the bonus game grid. You start with 3 respins in your counter, and only blanks or bonus symbols will land. Each time you land at least one new bonus symbol of any kind, the respins counter resets to 3 again. The bonus game ends when you run out of respins or if you manage to fill all 15 positions with sticky bonus symbols.

Regular coin prize bonus symbols are worth 0.5x to 4x your stake, while mini, minor, and major jackpot bonus symbols pay 10x, 20x, or 50x your stake, respectively. Mystery symbols reveal any kind of bonus symbol at the end of the bonus game, while Jackpot Mystery symbols reveal 1 of the 3 jackpots. Coin Collect symbols collect all present bonus and jackpot symbols, freeing up positions while remaining sticky until the end of the bonus game.

The volcano seen on the left may erupt multiple times per bonus game, increasing the coin multiplier of random positions by +1. Positions can be upgraded multiple times per eruption, and the coin multipliers boost any prize in the relevant positions at the end of the bonus game. If you manage to fill all 15 positions with sticky bonus symbols of any kind, you unlock the 500x Grand Jackpot. This jackpot is added to your total win from the feature.

Random Ultra Bonus Game

The Ultra Bonus Game triggers randomly from the base game as bonus symbols landing on the middle row are collected by the volcano. The Ultra Bonus Round triggers when the volcano erupts, guaranteeing position multiplier upgrades as the feature starts. In addition, you can expect more frequent multiplier eruptions during the Ultra Bonus Game. Other than that, the feature plays out exactly like the regular bonus game.

Our Verdict

While the influence from Wazdan’s prolific Coin series is obvious, and perhaps a bit too much so for some players, it cannot be denied that Coin Volcano 2 is quite an enjoyable little game. If you want to savor every base game spin, play with the lowest spin speed setting. However, I recommend switching on the turbo to speed up the time between bonus round triggers. With the turbo maxed out, spins are almost instant.

The base game doesn’t offer any wins, as you probably already know. However, the collection of coins into the volcano, with the coin eruption that follows, somehow makes it feel like things are happening. Indeed, things are building towards some kind of climax sooner or later, and the bonus game triggers quite frequently, albeit mostly the regular version and not the ultra bonus game. This is to be expected, of course, and the ultra bonus triggers more or less as frequently as a bonus round in a regular slot with base game wins.

At least that was my experience during testing, but you can always try the Coin Volcano 2 demo to see for yourself. It would’ve been nice if 3 Oaks were a bit more transparent about important game stats like RTP and the hit rate for the different bonus rounds, but at least the price tags of the bonus rounds indicate what you can expect in returns on average. Naturally, the boost bonus game is the most expensive with its x5 multiplier upgrades from the eruptions, and it’s only too bad it cannot trigger organically.

I think it’s fairer for everyone if there is an organic trigger for all bonus rounds, or at least a way to upgrade your way into it. However, it is what it is, and overall, Coin Volcano 2 is a fast-paced and entertaining game with tons of bonus round action. As long as you don’t expect life-changing payouts, there is plenty of fun to be had here, and 5,000x is around twice what the original game offers. But then again, copycatting the style of another provider so blatantly may turn off some players, but I didn’t really mind too much myself.
