You probably have to be above a certain age to remember Wile E. Coyote chasing the ‘meep-meep’-going Road Runner birds every Saturday on the cartoon network. The show has been off air since 2001 as far as we can tell, and it was fun to meet them again in this non-branded Megaways debut from OneTouch. Wild Coyote Megaways is a fast-paced release with plenty of features, most of which are a common occurrence in the Megaways genre.

The wood-framed dynamic grid is placed in a familiar looking desert landscape, at least if you’ve ever seen the show, and you get TNT Mystery Symbols, Cascading Wins, and full-reel Roadrunner Multiplier Wilds in both the base game and in the bonus round. The feature comes with the usual progressive win multiplier, and the 10,000x potential is hardly unheard of either. Fans of the show will probably appreciate this effort, and it’s a decent debut with the engine all things considered.

The premium symbols pay between 1.2 and 10 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and the Wild symbols step in for pay symbols to help complete wins. You can slide in regular wilds on the top tracker reel only, and wilds do not hold any value of their own. Winning symbols are removed via the Cascading mechanic, and new and/or existing symbols drop down to fill the gaps. This process repeats indefinitely as long as you keep winning.

You can land TNT Mystery symbols at random times, and all instances of this symbol turns into a randomly selected and matching pay symbol. This can lead to decent base game payouts, and the mystery symbol is available in the bonus round as well.

In addition to regular wilds, you can also slide in the Roadrunner Wild symbol on the top tracker reel only. Whenever this symbol appears, the reel below gets transformed to a fully expanded wild symbol depicting the roadrunner. This full reel wild comes with a multiplier up to x6 attached in the base game.

You need 4, 5, 6, or 7 scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round (hit rate is 1 in 442 spins), and this gives you 10, 12, 14, or 16 free spins, respectively. The bonus round comes with a win multiplier that starts at x1, and it increases by +1 per cascading win. The multiplier has no upper limit, and it never resets for as long as the feature lasts.

All Roadrunner Wilds come with an x6 multiplier during the feature, and each roadrunner wild awards +4 extra spins as well. In addition, symbols on the main grid that matches the symbol on the tracker position above turn into wilds. Non-UK players can pay 100x the stake to get the bonus round directly at any time. You get no winnings from the triggering spin, however.

Review Summary

Anyone old enough to remember Saturday cartoon mornings in front of the bulky old school television set will probably appreciate OneTouch’s Megaways debut, as it does thug on the ole’ nostalgic heart string. Wild Coyote Megaways is, of course, heavily inspired by the Road Runner cartoon show (meep meep!), and so much so that we are surprised they haven’t obtained some kind of license to make it official. They might skate on thin ice legally with this release, so time will tell how it fares.

Anyway, we had a pretty good time testing Wild Coyote Megaways, and it comes with a snappy pace and satisfying cascading explosions. Not having a bet level of £1 per spin is a minus though, and to be fair, there isn’t too much innovation to be seen here. You get mystery symbols and wild reels, which are hardly original, and the matching symbol wild transformation in the bonus round is the only thing that sticks out in that regard. The 10,000x potential is decent, albeit average for this engine, but the theme choice goes a long way.
